A/N: I haven't written in forever; I know I'm rusty. I love this song and I just had to. Review please, I beg you. Seriously, I beg you.
Thanks so much,
Rose
I
walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my
hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
"Hey, Lily." James said to the picture in his hand. Like the past few months, he got no response. He, by habit, went to the scene of their first – and last – date for the hundredth day in a row. But hey, who's counting?
Sat
by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have
you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So
tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need
somewhere to begin
He remembered their first – and last – kiss. Right by the river, he had tucked a strand of her glorious hair behind her ear. That moment had felt so right – so natural. He felt that it would be like that forever. For the first time, he felt wrong. And now he was alone. He had friends. He had girls. But no girl, really and truly, had him. He had to see her. He had to talk to her again.
I
came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at
me?
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that
I've been dreaming of?
He dreamt of their date every night. And every day when he went there, he was disappointed. The scene was not as gorgeous without its key element – Lily. It didn't feel right without her. It felt different.
Oh
simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need
something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm
getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
He needed Lily. Nobody in his life, no one…nobody had ever truly had James Potter except for her. The worst part of it all – she liked him back. She felt she had no right to be happy because of the death of her parents.
Figuring out how to use a Muggle phone, James
dialed the number he had dialed so many evenings in a row but never
had actually pressed talk for. Tonight was different. He asked her,
"So
if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only
we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we
go
Somewhere only we know?"
He heard the strain in her voice, and then he heard her smile through the phone. They reached the scene of their first date. Today, it was complete. She was there. He asked her questions, begged her. He reasoned with her. He asked her another question. This time, he had a ring.
Oh
simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need
something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm
getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
He
asked her again, just as he had done on the phone: "So
if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only
we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we
go
So why don't we go…"
"Yes, James. The answer is yes."
This
could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere
only we know?
"Lily, this is our place. Now and forever."
"Yes, it really is."
And, just to be sure it was real, just to be sure it was not just a picture, just to be sure this wasn't another dream…
"Hi, Lily."
This time he got a response.
