THE CORE

Blood, waste, war,

Thirst, hunger, failing,

Surviving and dying, fighting and winning,

This is the Hunger Games.

The core of this arena built for bloodbaths,

This place where fair play must be forgotten,

Where they call it an honor - an honor to die,

And nobody cares except family.

Where the government slaughters like wolves, lions, snakes,

Against the starving sheep beat into submission,

Where they send those who still have a life to go

And end their lives, to act like animals, like the animals who rule them:

Without care, only saving themselves for one more hour.

Where only one child out of 23 others comes home.

The ultimate crime, the ultimate waste,

Lower than anyone thought former America could sink to.

And in truth, though there is a winner, everyone loses it all.
