Marissa

You were curled up in the sand

The party roared on without you

The fires burned and their works illuminated

The lonely starlit sky

I ran after you in the darkness

Drawn by the call of the sea

The dark, cold sea, which crept up the beach to find you

To mingle with your tears

I pulled you up to face me

Sitting in your lap I curled my legs around your frame

Pushed your golden curls from your face

And ran my fingers softly over your warm eyelids

I drew you to me, willing

Warm in the heat of the summer night

Your eyes

Your face

Your skin

It silenced the crowd behind me

Your hand reached for my face

- seen only by the firelight

And pulled me into yours

Your mouth was as warm as the sand

As moist as the lapping sea

I ran my hands up and down your bare back

Removing the coarse grains that denied me your skin

My tongue went further in

I never knew love 'til now

You had stopped your tears

They mingled with the sweat in the places where we touched

I felt I could hold you forever

In those moments you were my own

I pulled you to your feet

Tried to talk but you silenced me with one of those kisses

Those mind numbing, heartbreaking kisses

And I surrendered

Never could we repeat it

Never to allow ourselves the beauty again

You just took my hand

And it was you who led me back

Back down to land
