Note from Emo-Puppy: This was written today in my Creative Writing class at school. Our topic was 'karma' and the teacher said we could write whatever we wanted to about it. So, I thought, what better victim than Ovan? x3

Anyway, I hope you guys like. Email me or leave a review and tell me what you think. It's really short, but I really like it, personally.

Set during the third game, in the 'Creator's Room'. Ovan musing to himself before the big fight with Haseo.

Disclaimer: I do not own .hack or the characters. If I did, I would be rich and the series would never EVER end. Nor do I own the awesome song "Instant Karma", which is by John Lennon (I assume) and was remade by Tokio Hotel.

He supposed he'd had it coming to him all along.

It wasn't that hard to figure out. He hadn't been oblivious, either. He'd simply chosen to ignore it, so that the cogs could turn and his plan could be followed through with.

His plan had worked, there was no doubt about it. All seven of eight devoured, all the puzzle pieces falling into place. Even AIDA had its uses, he supposed.

It seemed infinitely amusing to him, though, that he was now considered the enemy. Haseo and Yata had turned G.U. against him, and the rest of the game now thought of him as the creator of the dreadful AIDA virus.

If it hadn't been for AIDA, he wouldn't be in this position in the first place.

His gaze shifted, resting on the little girl sitting in a rocking chair that rested on the floating rock above a Tri-Edge sign. Aina…it was his fault that she was in a coma, that she was a lost one. He should have been able to stop AIDA. Instead, it had controlled him, and Aina…

His little sister, Aina. He winced his eyes shut, the memory of her scream and terror-filled gaze ripping through him like a rusted blade through an open wound.

Suddenly, Ovan felt sick, disgusted, and tired, all rolled into one. The metal encasing his left arm gleamed in the sheer whiteness of the room around him, almost mockingly. He felt a familiar burn at his shoulder. It wanted free.

He ignored it. Soon, it would be gone anyway, along with himself.

A well-deserved punishment to the pain and sadness he had caused, Ovan thought.

The air rippled, and Ovan heard the sound of multiple people warping into the room. A grim, accepting smile tugged at his lips.

Yes…he would accept his fate…It was his duty, after all.

"Ovan!" He heard Haseo scream angrily from behind him.

Slowly, leisurely, Ovan turned around. His sunglasses glinted in the harsh light, hiding his eyes.

Haseo already brandished his scythe threateningly, his eyes full of hatred. He was practically shaking in fury. The other members of G.U. stood near him, not seeming as eager as him. They looked confused…hurt. But not as angry as the Terror of Death.

"Come, Haseo." Ovan said smoothly, not a trace of anything but amusement in his voice. He ignored the other members of G.U., his focus on only the Adept Rogue before him. "Destroy me, if you wish to save them."

Haseo gritted his teeth, tensed, and dashed forward.

Ovan smiled, unleashing his own weapon and unlocking the metal casing around his arm.

Karma was knocking.

Today, Ovan would answer.
