Please read notes after the drabble.
It could get rough, Trip had said. Malcolm had shrugged it off. He'd done rough before. No one went out into deep space without getting roughed up somewhere, somehow. Hell, Lieutenant Reed held the record for most injuries incurred on an away mission. Doctor Phlox knew his file inside and out, without looking.
Rough was not something he had a problem with. The commander had been right. The Suliban hadn't pulled many punches.
Deception was harder. Hardest part about this little mission. It had to be perfect.
He was far from perfect but he'd be damned if he failed now.
Author's notes: I write drabbles to get into a character's head. To me, they are more difficult than a longer one-shot. To pare it down to 100 words exactly and still be saying something is difficult, and a wonderful exercise in characterization and sentence structure. I hope you enjoy it, as short as it is. This is a precursor to a longer work; this is my exercise in finding Malcolm's voice. Don't be surprised if you see a couple more drabbles for other characters before a full story from me. I'll load them as additional chapters to this "story" to keep from annoying those who don't appreciate drabbles.
