The project was awake today.
The scientist, wearing casual black clothes, slipped into the experiment room, his eyes fixing on the body that lay before him. The man on the table was the very definition of tall, dark and handsome, with longish dark hair that swept over pale skin and piercing blue eyes. The eyes were the only thing about him that moved, darting around the room, inspecting it and noting everything he could. The scientist had designed him that way, making sure that he would never miss anything.
The perfect warrior.
The black-haired man seemed to glide across the floor to the bed where his creation lay, locking black eyes with icy sapphire. It was always a thrill to see his creation so…alive. So many of his other experiments had turned out as lifeless corpses, only enough brain activity to keep them on the cusp of death. All failures.
Tendrils of darkness crept from the shadows, sensing the scientist's will and wrapping themselves in and around the experiment. The scientist closed his eyes, feeling through the blackness, truly seeing what the experiment needed. A tweak here, a push there, and he could no longer find a single flaw.
He was ready.
The scientist turned on his heel and strode out the door, nodding his colleague on the other side of the door. "Probation is go."
