(Like everyone else, I got bored one day and this is the result. I was just thinking of all the different friends I have and this is kinda what it is like at school for me. Hope you enjoy the result of boredom. )

Attraction

Hello, my name is Mira, but I'm usually called Avina. Though my name, Avina, isn't known to many, it still has significant value to a select few. I'm like any other normal 16 year-old you know; the kind that love talking on the phone, IM-ing on the computer, listening to all sorts of music. You know, the normal, run-of-the-mill kind of person. That is, until I meet someone, so totally just like me, that I couldn't help but get to know.

It was on a day like any other. Get up, get dress, and head out the door to catch the bus. The usual low hum of the music coming from the speakers above my head as I get on the bus always get on my nerves. Never liking what's playing on the radio, I put my headphones into my ears and raise the volume to drown out the radio. I pick a song and close my eyes, trying to think of anything other than the dreadful feeling I always get when I have to go to school. (Huh, guess that's also like any other 16 year-old) I ended up falling asleep, allowing my imagination to run wild. I could think of any kind of situation and make it my own. (Guess that's different) I know that may not make sense, but believe me, my dreams and imagination were all I needed to get completely lost in my own world. This time, my imagination was intent on telling a story from the Middle Ages. (History will do that to me)

I was, dressed in what looked like a crimson colored dress, in a mansion, with tapestries hanging from the walls of past achievements made by the male household members. There were many servants going about their daily routines. One noticed me.

'Miss? Do you need anything? Or are you looking for someone?' asked the servant with a puzzled look on his face.

I smiled and shook my head no. He nodded and returned to his duty of dusting. Bored of being in this hallway, I decided to go out into the gardens.

Outside, there were all sorts of different kinds of buds and blooms, with humming birds, butterflies, and bees moving from one flower to another, collecting the sweet nectar. I quickly noticed a Mira bush. In full bloom, the roses were a site for sore eyes. Each individual Mira had a different shade of red. I bent to smell one of the reddest colors, when suddenly some boy came out of nowhere it seemed and knocked us both into the fountain opposite the Mira bushes…

Just when my imagination was just getting warmed up, I felt a tap on my shoulder.

(Was that my imagination?) There was another tap. I opened my eyes. Standing there was a girl, about my height, blonde with black streaks, whose mouth was moving, but wasn't making any sound. I held up my index finger. 'Just a sec.' I mouthed to the girl, who nodded her head. I paused my music and pulled the headphones from my ears.

"What's up?" I asked.

"I'm new and I can't find an empty seat," she said.

(I really wasn't computing any thing that she said.)

"Um, Hello?" She waved her hand in my face.

"Huh? What'd you say?"

"I had asked if I could sit here,"

"Oh! Sure, sure! Just a sec."

The girl waited as I shoved all my stuff to the other side of the seat. She sat down and smiled.

"Hi, my name's Aden, Adie for short. Nice to meet you."

"My name's Mira, but my friends call me Avina."

We sat there for a little while as we waited for the light to turn green.

"So, what grade are you in, if you don't mind me asking?"

"I'm a junior. You a junior?"

We asked each other questions like this until the bus got to the high school. As everyone was unloading, I turned and waited for Aden (or should I say "Adie"?) to get off.

"Well, I gotta get going. My first period is on the opposite side of the school. Maybe I'll see ya around?"

"Yeah, maybe." Aden shrugged her shoulders.

I was about to turn around, when I remembered something.

"Do you got a map? Or do you know where to go already?"

Aden pulled out a map of the school and nodded.

"Do you know where the main office is?"

"Yeah, I came Friday to get my schedule and stuff."

"Okay, cool. Well, See ya later!"

I waved to her as I turned around.

I had just gotten into the door of my first period when the bell rang. I sighed a sigh of relief.

"Come on, everyone. To your seats, to your seats."

I quickly sat down. I was taking out all my materials for class, when the door opened, and, (guess who) Aden came through the door.

Mrs. Anderson turned and put her hands on her hips.

"Now, Miss, I know it's your first day here, but try and be on time from now on, okay? I might miss you on the role call."

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Anderson, I'll try not to be late again." Aden said to Mrs. Anderson.

"Alright, Miss. Now, go take that seat next to Miss Edison. Edison, raise your hand so that Miss…?"

"Oh, Thorn, Aden Thorn."

"So Miss Thorn knows where to sit from now on."

I raised my hand and Aden quickly came over and sat down.

"Well, I guess we have first period together. Don't worry 'bout Mrs. Anderson. She only gets like that when she hasn't had her morning coffee."

"Alright, everyone. Welcome back from your summer vacation. I know this is the first day of new term, but please, get your heads out of the clouds and come back to Earth."

"Aw, Come on, Mrs. Anderson! It's not like you're glad that we're back from break." Keira O'Connell, (my crush and not to mention best friend) said.

Everyone muttered and murmured their agreement.

Mrs. Anderson looked all over the room.

"So, what? You want me to forget about the lesson plan and just sit around and talk?"

More mutters, louder this time, agreed. Mrs. Anderson had a sly smile on her face.

"Well guess what? Too bad! We have a lot to cover before you can joke around and act like fools."

Everyone protested with that comment.

"Aright then, everyone turn to page xxi, the introduction of Biology. Now, we all know that…"

The last few minutes of class we had to ourselves. Everyone was asking Aden all sorts of questions from where she was from to why she moved here, to a town in the middle of nowhere. When the bell for the end of first rang, everyone rushed out the door. Aden and I staggered behind.

"What class do you have next?" I asked her.

"Um, I've got Mythology then Choir."

"Okay, then I guess you can just follow me. I go by the Mythology room on my way to Choir."

"Thanks."

"Huh? For what? I'm not doing anything special."

"To me, you are. You're helping me find my classes and you weren't even asked."

"What? Do you want me to stop helping you? Cause if you do, just say the words and I'll be gone."

"No, that's not what I meant. I meant that I appreciate what you're doing for me."

(It kinda caught me off guard when she said that she 'appreciated' what I was doing.)

We made it to the Mythology room. Luckily, Jesse, one of my friends, has Choir the same period Aden does. So, we planned that she would walk with Lucas to the Choir room and on the way, I would meet up with them.

"Don't worry. Jesse is a good guy. Just tell him that you're into manga, and he won't talk about anything else, unless you start talking about something else. Just watch out for what you say. He may not act like it sometimes, but Lucas is a 16 year-old guy and his brain can get the weirdest, nastiest, most perverted thoughts from just saying one word in a different tone."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Know what, don't worry about that either. I'll teach you how to have a flat tone when talking to him later, but I've got to get to class before I'm late. Later."

After second period was over, I waited for Jesse and Aden at the water fountain near the Mythology room. I noticed there was someone else with them.

"Aw, what'd ya want, Chaos? Thought you didn't like hanging out with my and my friends. What changed your mind?" (Chaos is my ex-boyfriend. I don't understand how I could fall for someone who always has a bone to pick with anyone. Yet could be so gentle when I wasn't feeling happy. Or the way his lightning blue eyes could always see right through me. Who's dark purple hair looked so silky. Whose voice always knew the right thing to say. Yet was the one person to hurt me the most when he uttered those words that ended our relationship.)

"No, my mind isn't swayed that easily. Just wanted to say hi." Chaos smiled.

"Yeah, right. You probably only can to annoy me, didn't you?" I said, an annoyed look on my face.

"Yup! Why are you always so smart?" Chaos said, smiling even more.

(What's he planning?)

Lucas could see that I was going to hurt Chaos if we didn't get moving.

"Hey, Avina, shouldn't you be heading to Mythology? Aden's been waiting to talk to you."

Aden looked up from her sketchbook.

"Oh, that's okay! I get to see another side of Mira. I'll be able to get to know her better."

(Apparently, chaos had just seen Aden standing there. His whole attitude changed and he sauntered up to her.)

"Hey, what's your name?" he asked.

"Aden."

Chaos got closer to her.

"Aden…what a pretty name. How come I've never seen you around school before today?"

"Cause-"

I cut her off. "Cause it's none of your concern, Chaos. Don't you have a class to go to?"

I said, stepping between them. Chaos stepped back, a smug look on his face now. He turned around and disappeared in the crowd of students and teachers. Aden smiled at me.

"Thanks."

I shrugged my shoulders. "No problem."

Jesse smiled. "It is when it involves Chaos, it's a big problem."

I turned around and glared at Lucas. He stepped back still smiling.

"Hey, Aden, what'd ya say we get to Choir class before the bell rings?"

During Mythology, the only thing I could think about was the dream I had before Aden got on the bus. I would get it out of my mind every now and again, but it always came back when I least expected it to. Trying anything to get it out of my mind, I started doodling on my notes. Lucas, another friend of mine, was looking at all the doodles that I'd drawn. I had been staring out into space the whole time. He poked me with the eraser of his pencil.

"Huh?"

Lucas started giggling.

"What?" I whispered.

"Guess you really were out of it." he said, pointing at my notes.

Following the pencil to the spot he was pointing at, I finally realized how much I'd drawn. On the paper, or all over the paper, was a very detailed sketch of the garden and how I saw it exactly. I even remembered the small bird's nest in one of the rosebushes. I looked back at him. He handed me a folded piece of paper.

'What was it this time?' was written on the first line.

'What do you mean?' I handed him back the note.

'What class was this from?' he wrote.

'World History, The Middle Ages.'

'Ah, so that explains the mansion in the background and the fountain design.'

I silently laughed. 'My imagination has been set on telling a story about medieval times.'

'What's with the garden then?'

'That's the last thing I got to before Aden woke me up. That, and someone bumping into me and making us both fall into the fountain.'

'Who's Aden? Someone you know or did you just meet them?'

'I just meet her this morning on the bus. She couldn't find a seat to sit in.'

'So she asked you?'

'Yup, weird thing is I think I might have seen her face before somewhere, but I don't know where.'

'What's so great bout her?'

'Nothing really, she's into the same things we are.'

'You think she might join the group if we asked her?'

'That's something I can't decide. Sure, I'm the leader, but when it comes to inducting someone into the group, everyone has to agree.'

'So what? Time for a group meeting?'

I thought bout that for a little before I answered. Lucas didn't get to write back cause the bell rang right after he read it. Written in the note was:

'I think we'll have that meeting then decide whether or not she joins. I've got an uneasy feeling bout her.'

After we got out of the classroom, Lucas and I both went to Mrs. Samson, our Math teacher, to see what lunch period we had. Like always, we (as in my friends, Aden, Chaos, and I) had the first lunch period. (We somehow always get lunch and a few classes together) Lucas and I met up with Aden and Jesse, who had met up with Kevin, Kenneth, Keira, and Mike. We all headed to the cafeteria.

The cafeteria is the place where all the social groups sort of get along. There's the occasional smile, wave of the hand, or 'hey'. I usually don't eat very much at lunch. Jesse and Lucas have their usual eating contest with Kevin and Kenneth cheering them on, while Mike is referee. Aden kept to herself at lunch. She didn't talk much and was lost in her sketchbook. I tried talking to her every now and again, but the responses were mainly nods or murmurs. Like always, Chaos and his gang of friends were always trying to start stuff, no matter how much trouble they got into. His new girlfriend, Emily (or the girl he cheated on me with), was always hanging all over him. Of course, he didn't care. (He was getting attention from someone other than his parents or the principal.)

Usually, he and his gang keep to themselves, but now he's started to try and come over to sit down and 'talk' to us. (My guess is that he's trying to get to Aden) Every now and then, one of them will come to our table and just sit there. We ignore them and just talk about classes and stuff so that they don't know what we were talking about before. One came over and sat by me and tried to put his arm around my shoulders. Some of them started talking to Keira and Mike. They were starting to be real pests. Tired of their crap, I decided to go over to Chaos and have a little talk.

He was in the middle of the table, his feet propped up, with his arm around Emily. Chaos quickly thought of something smart to say to me.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here? A little girl that's tired of other people coming to her table?"

His friends started laughing. I stood there, getting more and more mad at him and the thought that I actually liked him. They grew silent as I glared at them.

"Why are you doing this, Chaos? My friends and I haven't done anything to you."

Chaos, just sat there. (Probably thinking of what to say) He put his feet down and removed his arm from Emily. He leaned forward.

"Does it really matter what I do?"

I crossed my arms. "It does when you involve me and my friends."

Chaos leaned back and crossed his arms. I waited for his answer.

"Well…?" I said.

He gave me a blank stare. "Well what?"

I put my arms down. "What do you mean 'what'? I'm asking you to leave my friends and

I alone. Or is that too much to ask of you, Chaos?"

This time, he stayed quiet. I stood there for another minute or so, then left. Everyone was trying to see if I was okay.

"I'm fine, just a little frustrated."

"You sure? When you're frustrated, it's usually more than just that." Keira said. I smiled at him. It seemed to reassure him a little.

"I'm fine, don't worry about me."

He nodded and continued talking to Mike, who was still wondering why he hadn't furthered the conversation. I sat down and started writing in one of my journals. Aden sat watching me while I was writing. It was kind of annoying.

"Can I help you or am I a test subject?" I said, trying not to sound annoyed, but not looking up from my writing.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to stare." she said, averting her eyes from me.

I sighed. "It's okay. I'm just mad and I don't mean to take it out on you."

She smiled. "Okay. What are you writing if you don't mind me asking?"

I showed her the cover of my journal. On the cover was 'thoughts' written in script. I put it back down and continued writing.

"Is that journal like your way of relieving stress and anger?" she asked.

"Yup. Is it that way with your sketches?" I asked, still writing.

"Yes, I feel more at ease when I'm sketching something after I get mad or something." she smiled.

I looked up from my writing. "What are you smiling for?" I asked with a puzzled tone in my voice.

"Nothing, just remembered a friend of mine that is just like you when it came to writing down his thoughts and feelings in a journal. What you just said reminded me of him." She smiled sadly.

"Well, can't you call him or send him a message or something? Does he not have a cell or a computer?"

She shook her head. "It's not that. It's just that, right before I left, he told me that he liked me and I kind of yelled at him for saying something like that when he knew my best friend liked him too."

"Oh, so that's why you won't call him?" I asked, trying to help her. Aden stayed quiet, not answering my question. "Aden, how am I supposed to help you if you won't answer a single question?" I asked her.

She turned to me. "I know your gonna freak when I tell you this, but…Chaos kinda looks like him." After that she went straight to sketching again. (Probably cause she was nervous or something)

I was shocked. "Does your friend really look like him?" I said trying not to sound surprised.

Aden nodded, though not looking up from her sketchbook. "Well, his hair and eye-color are different. So is his personality."

"Oh, then that's a good thing…for both of us." I said, starting to laugh.

Aden looked like she was confused then started laughing. The guys were staring at us like we were maniacs, but I guess that happens when one minute you're about to bite off someone's head, then the next your laughing with someone you barely know. We couldn't breathe and we were crying when we stopped laughing. Keira was looking at us, probably thinking we were about to fall out of our chairs. "Are you two okay? You look like your about to faint from all that laughing you did." I wiped a few stray tears from my eyes. "Yeah, we'll be fine, it was just something I said to Aden."

"Yup, it was hilarious!" Aden said, still clutching her stomach from all the laughing. Keira had a curious look on his face.

"Really? What was it that you said, Avina?" he asked, hoping that I would tell him and the others. "Sorry, boys, my lips are sealed!" I said, making a zip and lock motion across my mouth. "Aww, come on, Avina!" whined Kenneth. I crossed my arms and shook my head. "What about you, Aden? Are you gonna tell us?" asked Mike, trying to switch their efforts from me to her. She smiled and shook her head, continuing with her sketches. "You two are gonna drive us insane!" cried Kevin. Aden and I smiled.
"That's the idea!" we said in unison.
