I'm a Marine.

At the moment, I'm guarding a prisoner I couldn't have imagined a year ago.

But I'm still a soldier.

When a Colonel tells me to scram, I generally do it.

Even when I get that strange gut feeling that something isn't right.

A glance to the observation room reveals only the dark-skinned companion of this Colonel.

The other guards have left. It's just me, the Colonel, the alien, the Jamaican, and a pasty civilian sweating bullets.

My eyes meet the Colonel's briefly, then look to the man at his side.

I know about the Wraith.

I know what's going to happen here.

But I also know it might be the right thing to do.

After a moment, I step out the door.

I wasn't always an SF, you know.

I've served in combat.

I know the world isn't black and white, but a million shades of grey.

The door opens a few minutes later.

I step back into the lab, and I'm not surprised by what I find.

The Colonel's voice drifts into my consciousness.

"The Wraith surprised me. Not as weak as he let on."

Bullshit, Colonel.

But I'll be damned if I'm saying a word.
