Billy Boyd has destroyed me with the new Hobbit song.
Summary: We came all this way, but now comes the day ... to bid you farewell.
Words: 471
He wasn't sure what would happen now, as Phantom and Mercedes and Luminous and Aran began to become covered by frost.
As his life began to fall apart.
They all looked at him with looks of concern and fright, with worry and … fear. But he could see - even now, they were forgetting him. Erasing him from existence. And they would never remember him again - no matter how hard they tried, no matter what hit them.
He whispered, "This is our last goodbye."
Centuries later, he awoke, blinking and confused. And he travelled, travelled so far to try and understand where his friends had ended up. Phantom - a thief and hero trying to regain some of his lost fame. Luminous - wrought with grief over his own decisions, predictably hostile towards him … Mercedes, trying her hardest to save a world that forgot her, because her people needed it. And Aran - who didn't just forget him … who forget everything.
They wouldn't remember him - so why should he try to become their friend? What did he do now? They would never look at him like that - no, not without Freud to convince them.
Night is now falling, so ends this day …
He should forget about them … about what they have sacrificed - but that would be awful. Disrespectful. It would ruin what little happy memories he had … But he could no longer stay there. They would never remember him - and just seeing them would make him upset and distressed.
He left.
He left onto a journey on which he did not know the end. But - something was calling him, and he followed. Did he plan on coming back one day - he wasn't sure. But he could feel someone watching him, and as he set himself down in the outskirts of some town, overgrown by flowers … He stared into the sky, bright and blue and beautiful.
"Many places I have been… many sorrows I have seen. But I don't regret, nor will I forget all who took the road with me…."
He turned away from what he knew as Maple World, hair flowing behind him in the wind … And he continued on, away from his home of heartbreak, to dreams of making a new life for himself.
But he would never forget, and he would never regret any of his decisions.
Because by giving up his happiness, he gave his friends their second chances. And that - meant the world to him.
To these memories I will hold
With your blessing I will go
To turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me
I cannot tell
We came all this way
But now comes the day
To bid you farewell
