Alfendi Layton sat at his desk, experiencing the calm before the storm. His amber eyes flitted to the calendar, finally settling on the day's date. October 31st. Halloween. Which, in turn, meant a holiday to decorate for, which Lucy had already done weeks ago. Now, Alfendi was just waiting for the wave of Halloween that Lucy would bring today. Standing up, he brushed away the shining pumpkins that hung on strings out of his line of vision. It was a pesky decorations for a man of Alfendi's height, but Lucy was around 5'4 to his 6'0 form, and so the distraction stayed.
The inspector walked around the room, and with out realizing it, began to pace with Lucy not being there yet. It was nearing nine, and the latest Lucy had really ever been was half-past eight. A sense of dread filled his stomach as Alfendi's darker persona took over. Was he worried about her? It couldn't be. Deep in thought, Alfendi didn't notice the shadow that so careful fell in sync with his movements, and with much stealth, launched itself on to his back.
"GOTCHA!" The man let out a yelp as he took himself and whoever it was down to the floor. Alfendi was graceful enough not to smash his face in, but clumsy enough to fall straight on his back, the assaulter landing on top of him. A mass of golden brown hair glinted in the light as it fell onto him, and with little thought, realized that it had been Lucy who had attacked him. His initial response was to allow his hair to flair in color, but it quickly diminished when Alfendi saw that she wasn't moving.
"Lucy?" He started, worry thick in his voice. Without a moments notice, high-pitched laughter rang out from the girl, her form racked with giggles. Lucy tried to look up at him, but quickly buried her head in Alfendi's chest once more after not being able to look him in the eyes.
"You ignorant girl!" Potty Prof snarled. Lucy glanced back up at him, biting her lip to keep from laughing at him. "Do you realize what could have happened?"
"Yeah, Prof. You could 'ave screamed like a girl. It were close enough," Lucy stated with a mischievous light in her crimson eyes.
"I could have attacked you! I could have hurt you! Don't you understand?" Alfendi's eyes widened. I could of hurt her. I would actually care...
"You would have done summat like tha', Prof," she mumbled. Lucy knew that he tried not to be harsh, but sometimes he would slip up, not that she minded. He was harder on himself than Lucy could ever be. Her face brightened. "'Sides, Prof! You like me too much!" She giggled. Rolling off her mentor, Lucy got up and brushed off her uniform, which had been tweaked for the occasion. A little halo was fitted around her orange cap, and miniature wings were stuck to the back of her coat. Alfendi blushed when he realized he had stared from the floor for quite some time.
Not missing a beat, Lucy offered her hand, and with Alfendi taking it, hoisted him up. Smirking, he couldn't help himself.
"Really, Baker," he chuckled darkly,"An angel?" She softened.
"Tha's right, Prof. Cause I'm your angel." Alfendi snorted at the comment.
"You are right, Lucy," Alfendi started, right before Lucy interrupted him.
"Wait, could you repeat tha'? Di you just say tha' I'm right?" Lucy held her phone out, ready to record.
"Yes, my dear angel Lucy. You are right." Alfendi pulled his assistant in closer to him. "I do like you too much." Alfendi held her gaze for no more than a second, before leaning in and closing the space between them. They stayed like that for a while, the phone droped on the floor and long forgotten. While Lucy was startled, it wasn't anything wrong. After all, who doesn't need their heart to race on All Hallow's Eve?
