Whispered Words

Jacob grinned when he heard the loud rumble of Bella's truck. Her frequent visits had quickly become the highlight of his life. He pounded down the stairs, three at a time, flew out the front door, and arrived at her car just in time to catch her as she stumbled out of the old truck.

"Sorry," she looked up sheepishly at him.

He threw her one of his famous grins and replied,

"Dont apologize, I enjoy not being the only clumsy one around here." Bella flashed Jacob an angry look.

"At least I'm not a big scary monster," she teased. He held up his hands as if in surrender.

"So, how are you today Bella?" A look of pain spread across her face but she quickly cleared it up and offered Jacob a weak smile.

"Im better now thank you." Jacob knew that she still had rough days ever since 'he' left.

"Bella, I know you're hiding your pain from me," Bella shifted her gaze to her feet. "I hate seeing you like this, I hate what 'he' did to you, just leaving you hanging like that. It is so unfair and I hate seeing you in pain. You deserve so much more than that." Jacob's hands were shaking as he tried to calm himself but was obviously failing. "Bella, all I want is for you to be happy but that... that bloodsucker keeps getting in your way."

"I told you not to call him that!" Bella eyes were stinging with tears. Jacob stepped closer and put his arms around her. At first she didn't do anything but after a brief moment she pulled away, looking angered and confused.

"I can't, I can't do this." The words escaped from her mouth in a whisper and she turned to run into the nearby forest, tears streaming from her eyes.

"Bella, Bella come back," Jacob called after her. He didn't know what to do, should he go after her or should he let her go? This wasn't what he had intended, he didn't mean to blurt out his feelings like that but it was so easy for him to talk to Bella that he hadn't even thought twice about it. .

Deciding that Bella would most likely get lost, Jacob set out after her. It wasn't hard to track her, his heightened senses caught her beautiful scent and heard her stiffled cries. After a couple minutes of tracking, he found Bella sitting with her back to a tree, her arms wrapped around her legs and her hair in a tangled mess. Jacob hurried to sit next to her and pulled her to him and she sobbed into his chest.

"Im sorry Bella, I didn't mean for it to come out so harsh," he said softly.

"Jake, I shouldn't have reacted that way, its been months but I'm still losing sleep over him," Jacob mentally recoiled at the irony of that statement.

"Its okay Bells," he stroked her hair and pulled her closer. She looked up at him confused. Jacob quickly wiped away her tears with his thumbs and held her face in his hands.

They just sat there, not talking, not taking their eyes off eachother, just... staring. Bella lifted her face closer to his, her eyes still puffy. Despite her messy state, Jacob found her so beautiful and couldn't possibly see how Edward had let her go. He leaned down and gently touched his lips to hers and pulled away to see if she was angry. To his suprise, she reached up to kiss him again, this time with passion. It was a change for Bella, not having to hold back so the other person wouldn't be tempted to kill her. Bella wrapped her arms around Jacobs neck and leaned in more. Jacob pulled away gently, keeping his arms around her waist. He lowered his head to her ear and whispered very softly,

"I love you Isabella Swan.
