Prayer for Unknown Friends

Sometimes, one far away can influence the outcome of a faraway battle…

"…Someone, anyone… Please help us!"

Sora bolted upwards, beads of sweat trailing from his forehead.

"Garsh, Sora, what's the matter?" Goofy inquired the spiky-haired teen's sudden awakening in the night.

"You had a nightmare? Ah phooey, you're too old to have night terrors," Donald quacked, annoyed and dreary.

"No, it's… something else… just don't worry, okay?" Sora breathed slowly. As he eased himself, Donald immediately fell asleep again, while Goofy still stared at Sora, concern evident despite the darkness.

"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Goofy asked. Sora sighed.

"Goofy, I'm fine, just go back to sleep. We'll be leaving Hollow Bastion next morning."

"Okay then, suit yourself. Just don't forget, Donald and I are by your sides through thick and thin," Goofy replied. And with a loud yawn, Goofy was out like a light, still as a bump on a log, snoring peacefully.

Sora watched his sleeping companions. In the past year, they had traveled together, eventually halting Ansem's desire to unleash darkness unto the universe before falling into a long slumber. Now they are traveling together again, this time to find his childhood friend Riku, who had been sealed behind the Door to Darkness. Sora promised Kairi that he would return to Destiny Islands once he found Riku.

Sora, Donald, and Goofy had met King Mickey in Twilight Town. Though the meeting was brief, it was enough to assure Sora that Riku was alive and well elsewhere in the universe.

"Someone… Can you hear me?"

Sora blinked in shock. That voice again!

"Please give us strength!"

He somehow knew that the voice wasn't just his imagination; it was a message. From whom he did not know, but the plea touched his heart, filling it with a mixture of empathy and concern until he felt that his heart would burst. So the Keyblade Master prayed to the mysterious messenger and the messenger's companions, praying to the friends he never met before.

After praying for what felt like eternity, Sora's blue eyes fluttered open to show him the peaceful room he and his companions were lodged in.

His heart finally at ease, Sora finally fell into a state of tranquility to prepare for the next morning.

A/N I'm not sure how the inspiration came, but I knew I had to write this one-shot out.

Edit: Fixed some grammar issues. Flows a bit better now.
