Allen lept up as the akuma exploded from beneath him, it grotesque head parted by the edge of his sword. The street was completely deserted, save Lavi and his other comrades plus a swarm of the angry Daemons that were baying for exorcist blood. Now that was a question thought Allen as he nimbly avoided a hail of deadly poison-bearing bullets headed his way. What do you call a group of akuma? A murder? A gaggle? He smirked as he thought of that last one. The white haired boy's crowned clown sword glinted in the final rays of the dying sun which was slowly slipping off the edge of the world, far away from the isolated town. No, "swarm" would have to do until he found a better one. Maybe he could ask Lavi?
'Speak of the devil and he shall appear', Lavi skimmed over the rooftop and smashed the last advancing akuma into a shimmering mist. Allen scanned the area with his cursed eye as Lenalee cleared up the last dregs of the enemy. The whole town had been obliterated; all that remained was a crumbling mass of unrecognizable structures. All its inhabitants had either been killed or had fled in the madness of the massacre. Allen gave a heartfelt sigh, he hated to see how much pain and destruction had been caused by the akuma and this only served to fuel his determination to save everyone- human and deamon alike. All of this led him to spare a thought for the people he hadn't managed to save, the ones that had died waiting for a saviour or protecting the ones close to them. Caught up in his musings Allen failed to notice Lavi join him, only to give a startled jump as
"Yo moyashi-kun"
Was whispered in his ear.
Lavi had noticed the quiet sadness in Allen's expression beforehand and his pure emerald eyes inset with obsidian glowed with concern
"What's eatin' ya"
Allen looked up at the older boy; his fiery hair was waving softly in the suddenly cold breeze. Lavi was about to leave, mistaking the other boys lack of answer as coldness, when he felt Allen lean on his chest.
Allen could feel Lavi's warm breath on his neck and his beating heart against his back, the warmth seeping between layers of clothing. It was then that the exorcists shared a moment, a moment of pure clarity and understanding. Then as soon as it came it departed leaving a snug Allen, Lavi with his answer and a heart-broken girl in its wake
