"Oh my god, get off me!" She yelled.
"Sorry, sorry!" He said.
He let go and rolled off her. She jumped out of bed so fast that his pride actually got hurt. He didn't understand. He had given her time. A lot of time. Longer than he had ever given anyone before and he was getting tired of waiting.
"What the hell is wrong with you, AJ?" She asked.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Eugenia," he spat out her name. "I'm sorry for wanting to actually make love to my girlfriend. I'm sorry for wanting to take us to that next level after almost four months of dating. We're adults. How long are you gonna keep me waiting? I'm a man, for crying out loud, and I got needs."
She stared at him with open mouth for two seconds. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"But I told you," she said.
"What? What did you tell me? That you don't wanna have sex? Yeah, I got the memo. Jesus fuck, four months. I've never waited that long before," he said.
"I told you I was asexual. I told you that I couldn't accept a date with you unless you accepted this relationship would mean no sex ever. What did you expect?" She asked.
"I didn't expect you actually being serious about the ever part. I thought you just wanted to wait until you were ready," he said.
"But I'm asexual!" She shouted. "I don't ever wanna have sex with anybody!"
It was his turn to stare at her for a few seconds. She had told him that when he asked her out. He hadn't believed her. He hadn't thought it meant what she was actually saying.
"You can't be serious," he said. "You just haven't done it right yet. You haven't met the right man to rock your world and show you how good it can be. I can be that man."
"You don't understand," she said.
She shook her head in disbelief. She had told him everything that day, and all this time he had only pretended to believe her.
"You understand being gay isn't a choice, right?" She asked.
"Yeah?" He looked confused.
"This is the same thing. Being asexual isn't a choice. I was born this way. Don't you think I wanna be normal? But having sex no matter how much I love the man feels like an attack on my body. I can't do it, AJ," she said.
Her words slowly sank in. He swallowed hard. For the first time he realized he had built up lies in his head about how she was and how it was gonna be. She had been honest from the start.
"Eugenia," he said.
"No," she cut him off.
"Please," he gave her a begging look. "I love you."
"And I love you but it isn't enough, I'm afraid," she said.
"So where does that leave us?" He asked.
"Right here. This is the end of the line," she said.
She sat down on the bed, put her ankle boots back on and leaned forward to tie the shoelaces. Her long, frosted blonde hair went forward, covering her face as she prepared to leave him. She stood back up and her hazelnut brown eyes found his.
"We can make it work," he said.
"No, we can't. At some point masturbating to porn won't be enough for you and you'll end up cheating on me. I'm gonna be the bigger person and walk away now to avoid that heartbreak in the future," she said.
"What about the heartbreak now? You're fucking breaking my heart right now," he said.
"And my own," she said.
She picked up her purse and walked towards the bedroom door.
"Eugenia, please," he tried.
"Goodbye, AJ," she said.
