Summary-What happened the morning after.
When my alarm clock went off that morning, I automatically knew something was wrong. My reporter instincts were already developing when I was five.
As I tugged on the jeans my Mom had gotten for me that weekend, something bad smelling reached my nose. I hurried downstairs to make sure Mom and Dad were ok.
Dad was making waffles. Dad never cooked anything.
"Mommy?" I called out, wondering what tragedy could have struck our household that made my Dad want to do the cooking.
"Oh, honey." My Dad turned around and I saw red around his eyes.
"Daddy? Where's Mommy?" I asked, pulling myself up on a stool as he handed me a paper plate.
My Dad just kind of smiled and shook his head.
"These are good waffles, Daddy." That was all I could think to say. They really weren't that good, but at least he smiled.
