Merlin was gay, eighteen and lived in a place called Ealdor, his father had died and Merlin had only ever seen him for just over a few minutes. But things went okay he and his mother had made it just fine without him although there was a lot more work, his mother had a dangerous job that she had taken over from Merlin's father so most of the time she was busy 'rescuing princesses' as he had put it. Near where Merlin lived was a huge lake so because of this he and his mother owned a fish mongers and sold fish, bait and other things they found.
As a matter of fact Merlin was just starting his shift now, he put on his favourite red neckerchief and sat at the wooden stool behind the desk doodling on a blank sheet of paper. Suddenly someone threw a plastic bag with bait inside it, "hey you just..." Merlin started but he wasn't able to finish. It was Gwaine a guy who was popular and a guy that Merlin had had a crush on for years, "oh hi Gwaine!" Merlin stated deciding to go with the happy look, "oh hey... urmm..." Merlin was annoyed he had known his like forever and he still didn't even know his name, well he didn't expect him to, "Merlin."
"right... how much?" Merlin realised that he was talking about the bag he had thrown at the desk, "oh no don't worry no charge, a deals a deal, free bait in exchange for never having to take the bus again." Gwaine smiled and nodded "great," before leaving with Merlin quickly taking his neckerchief of and hurrying behind along behind him. "Merlin" it was Hunith (Merlin's mother) "can I talk to you for a second?" Merlin sighed gazing after Gwaine before replying "Yeah, sure."
"So... has he asked you to go to the homecoming dance thing with you yet?" Merlin moaned hitting his head on the board behind him, "mum, please stop embarrassing me!" Hunith laughed scuffing up Merlin failed jelled hair "I'm you mother, it's kind of my job" she winked before leaving Merlin to go and catch Gwaine.
Merlin ran only to find Gwaine hopping into a Silver Lamborghini with Morgana in the front and Gwen in the back, Merlin sent a scowl towards Morgana "what are you doing here?" Morgana smiled a fake smile that made Merlin want to punch her in the face, "Gwaine's giving us a ride until I get my new ride, isn't that sweet?" Merlin forced a smile "yeah sweet...urm there's no room for me," Gwaine had one foot on the driver's seat on one outside of the car, "sure there is, " he said looking towards the place where there were the two dresses.
Morgana spoke "no he's right, Gwen's already wrinkling my after lunch outfit," Merlin scoffed "Morgana this is high school not Vegas, you don't need a costume change." Morgana looked down and sighed "right" another sighed "huh... but you might want to think about it." Gwen laughed and then Gwaine spoke "I'm sorry Merlin, hey thanks for the bait" before leaving with them and Gwen and Morgana saying there snobby goodbye's, Merlin looked over towards his mum who tilted her head towards the car and nodded with understanding.
