From the Heart

Disclaimer: I don't own 10 Things I Hate about you nor the Taming of the Shrew.
Author's Note: This popped into my head for no apparent reason, but what if Patrick actually wrote his sonnet also? I mean, he was in English class that day and he loved the girl and everything... Please review!

The class sat silently, staring at the door as Kat ran out. When she had begun reading a love sonnet of her own devising, and begun to cry the class had been completely surprised. The ice-queen, bitch extraordinaire, showing an emotion? Heart-break, of all things? Even Mr. Morgan looked shocked.
Their attention was brought back to the class at the sound of someone else grabbing their paper and walking to stand in front of everyone. It became the general consensus around the room that they had just stepped into an episode of the "Twilight Zone" as Patrick Verona began to read his sonnet.
He was looking down intently, even nervously, at the paper in his hands. Patrick's voice started out slow and soft, though he gradually spoke louder as he read the poem to the class. And, shocked, they listened silently to every word.
"It's not your mean sarcastic streak,
Nor the way you act so cruel.
It's not the havoc in my heart you wreak,
Though you take me for a fool.
It's not the horrid thing I've done,
Nor the sorrow in your eyes
It's not the times that we had fun,
Free from all our lies.
It's just the fact that you are you
That makes my love for you so true."
And for the second time that day, the class was left staring at the door in shock as Patrick followed Kat's example. The bell rang signaling the end of school, and the whole thing was forgotten by all except two people in the rush to get home for the day.

Well, what do you think? Sucks, huh? Oh, and by the way: I know it's not actually a sonnet (I do read Shakespeare...), however the concept is there. Also, his apparent intelligence not-withstanding... Patrick hadn't gone to the English class for most of the year, correct? He might have had the sentiment and inspiration, but not necessarily the knowledge of the rhyming and all. The point is more that it's 'from the heart' (haha), not that it is in proper format. I did that on purpose!
