AN: Just a fun little fic. Enjoy!
You are nervous, scared, hyper but prepared. You are ready for anything, and anyone, that may present a threat to you and your family. This has been planned for months, this operation, this event- and you are fully prepared to take on the day.
You have consulted with others who have experience dealing with this situation; and they have given you valuable advice.
The first, you have already done, and it helps in that at least you are on the right path. It seemed as though everyone agreed that the first thing to do, was plan accordingly. And by God, you have planned and planned and planned. There is no more planning, you are ready come hell or high water. Or both. If there is a fire, you already have the escape plan set up, a tornado, well you know where to go. Gunman, UNSUB, snow, ice, sleet, bomb, you can think of nothing you are not ready for. Good.
The second was one that could essentially, be rolled into the first. Never let your guard down, you never know what could happen. It could all be going beautifully, and out of nowhere, the most insane thing can pop out. Well that was easy, you had no chance of letting yourself relax, not with as something as important as this.
The third was to bring a change of clothes. You never knew what could ruin your outfit and it was a damn good idea to have something, anything to change into.
More advice piled in, including lists. Lists of everything, every single detail, people, items collected, etc. Make a list of potential enemies, those who want to hurt you or your family, a list of those you are close to and would do anything to protect.
This is a no fail mission. You cannot afford to fail at any point. It is a one shot chance, there will never be another opportunity for this, never another ideal time. It is now or never.
So, with a deep breath, you exit your vehicle and walk over to meet your gathering team. You nod at them, smiling and take the lead.
"You ready?" You ask them and watch as they nod.
Slowly, but with confidence, you and the team enter the building and take your places. You make sure everything is right before you send the text. The one text that sets everything else in motion, like dominos falling. There is no going back now.
You use all your training to steady yourself, to calm your breathing, your heart rate, to increase your focus. And you listen quietly for any noise, anything that would tip him off that everyone is waiting..
And soon, you hear footsteps approaching, and voices. And you cross your fingers and lick your lips and hope that as they walk in, all will go just perfectly.
They have entered the large gym, and suddenly, its go time. The lights flash on, and that is your cue.. with a deep breath, you and the team jump out of their hiding places.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HENRY!"
And judging by the look on your five year olds face, you can guess that throwing him is surprise party went just perfectly.
Now you can relax, now you can smile, and now you can enjoy the day.
