"I can't believe the captain has on his crew someone so exquisite"
Nyota paused, and slowly turned towards the source. This man, Khan, formerly known to the crew as John Harrison was starting squarely at her.
He was assigned to the sick bay by Kirk and she had just come down for a check-up with McCoy after their fight on Klingon.
His gaze was intense, it almost made her want to look away, but instead she stared squarely back.
"Thank you" she whispered and continued with what she was doing after raising an eyebrow.
He was supposed to be on their side now, but she was not so certain he cared for anyone but himself. He was trying to take down the commander that sentenced his people to death, rightfully so the rest of the crew was still suspicious of him as well.
"Your eyes," he said while pausing and moving closer "They are captivating, much like looking into a nebula or a star exploding and expanding into a galaxy" His raspy baritone seemed to whisper as he studied her.
She smiled cautiously at the comment "How fitting" she said "My name is Nyota." she did not see any harm in telling him her name. It was not as though she did not normally give it out. Kirk had just irked her so much in their first encounter with his smugness that she refused to give it to him.
"Ahh" he said "The Swahili for Star is it not?"
"Indeed" she replied , he seemed still captivated by her eyes.
His gaze was becoming much more sinister and dangerous than hers was. She saw a bit of lust mixing into the deep pools of his vibrant blue eyes. His gaze reminded her of the cobra she had seen as a young child while visiting the market.
She wondered if she was skilled enough in language to be the pungi player to his cobra, this was a dangerous game of word play they were in engaging in. On one hand, she could end up bitten and struck by his venom. She had seen happen to Kirk many times and even the infamous Spock had been outsmarted on occasion by this man. But Nyota had never been one to back down from a challenge.
"Tell me" he rasped "Are you taken?"
She was surprised by his forwardness, but with one glance as she locked eyes with him she could tell he would not back down.
For a moment she hesitated, even she did not know the status of her relationship anymore. It had become apparent to her that Spock's affection for Kirk was only growing, leaving their relationship to wither in the dust.
No matter how she tried to make him open up, he would only do so when Kirk was around. Seeing how passionate Spock became around Kirk became painful for her to watch. She could not endure such masochism much longer she had admitted to herself, and she was already debating when to let him free.
"Ahh I see" Khan said with a slow smirk "A relationship in trouble, perhaps?"
He started to move closer to her and as she tried to move back she realized he had backed her up against the wall while they were talking.
He leaned in he started to speak seductively and softly into her ear "A wayward lover is a useless one, one who lacks passion and depth cannot properly grow your love over time or open you to new experiences any more than your own hand"
She angrily blushed at the innuendo but refused to dignify him with a response, she was not Kirk, she would not rise to the bait.
"If it were me" he continued as he whispered into the shell of her ear "I could expand your mind and explore your body in ways your Vulcan could never dream of."
Nyota smiled tightly before her response "Thanks, but I think I'll stick to my own hand" she flatly replied before ducking under his arm to briskly walk toward the exit.
She heard Khan call out behind her. "My temporary quarters are in room 1125 Nyota, should you ever change your mind."
As she ventured back to her room Nyota knew she needed some time think, she sighed as she realized a sleepless night awaited her.
