The notes seemed to lift off the page and float through the air in the small flat. I grinned at the thought of little black music notes flying through the air before slowly dissipating into nothing. He had his back turned to me when I quietly entered the room so he wasn't aware of me watching him. He continued to play as I stood silent, not daring to make a noise and disturb him. I simply watched in awe, totally mesmerised by the fluent motion go the bow moving smoothly across the strings. Pale fingers quickly darted across the neck of the beautiful instrument cradled under his chin. Music filled the room, the graceful song bouncing off the walls. He turned towards the window and I could finally see his face. I realised that he must have been composing as he went when I saw his relaxed face and closed eyes. He looked so peaceful. That was a word that I thought I would never use to describe the amazing man in front of me, but here we are. His already pale skin was a ghostly white where the moonlight struck it. I closed my own eyes, trying to capture and preserve the moment. I hoped that I would never forget the way the music seemed to paint colours in my mind. With a slow inhale, I opened my eyes to see the scene before me. I breathed out, almost saddened by the fact that he was ending the composition. He began to pull the song to an end and I watched, motionless as he gently dragged the bow across the strings. Then it was silent. The moment was gone, like mist in the wind. His arms slowly fell to his sides and his eyes lazily opened. He gently set the instrument down in its case. I thought for just a fleeting moment that he still hadn't noticed me standing awkwardly in the doorway. I was wrong, however, as he looked back up at me, a smirk beginning to show on his face. "So," he asked of me. "How do you feel about the violin?"
Author's Note: Hello there! This is my first piece to publish and it would mean a lot to me if you could take a few moments to give me a review. Tell me what was great, or what you hated about it, or what I can do better. I can take it all! Thanks!
