Author's Note: This was just a quick little story I wrote last night while taking a break from my other fanfics. It takes place when Torres first joins the Lightman Group in the episode 'Pilot'. I hope it's not too bad. xD

"Hey, uh, Loker?" Torres asked, causing Loker to turn around. He smiled when he saw who it was.

"Hi Torres," he said to the Lightman Group's newest employee. "Lightman isn't keeping you busy?"

"He hasn't given me any cases yet." Torres watched as Loker's eyebrows quickly rose is surprise before being replaced by an understanding look.

"You're a natural. Lightman probably wants you to look over the facial action coding system a few more times and learn a bit of the science behind it first." Loker saw a disappointed look flicker across Torres' face. "I wouldn't worry, though. He'll let you in on one soon enough.

"Speaking of Lightman," Torres said slowly, "is he and, uh, Foster, are they-"

"Together?" Loker guessed. Torres' nod confirmed he was right. "Not yet."

"Oh," Ria said, embarrassed. She didn't like being wrong. "They acted like they were at the airport."

"Yeah, they do that a lot," Loker agreed. He never thought he would find himself talking about Lightman and Foster's personal lives, but here he was, talking about them. "Lightman hasn't dated anyone since his divorce, and Foster's married." Loker read the realization on Torres' face. It was so much fun having someone else around to watch their expressions. "Which means it's a good thing you came to work here," he continued, "because I don't like to waste my time fantasizing about married women, unlike Lightman, and even if I did fantasize about Foster, Lightman would kill me if he found out. Now you're here, and now there's someone here at work who I would like to sleep with." Torres was surprised and wore a confused look. She still wasn't used to Loker's radical honesty yet.

"You have no filter at all, do you?" Torres asked, her question sounding more like a statement.

"I know," Loker replied with a smile.

Torres was finally informed about a case the Lightman Group was working on, and eagerly got to work. She was excited to actually be doing something. Not long after she started looking for microexpressions on the suspect, Torres caught a glimpse of Alec Foster, Gillian's husband.

"I'm sorry I'm late," she heard him say to Foster. "I got caught up at work again." Torres could easily see that Foster's husband was lying to her; work was definitely not the reason he was late. She turned to Lightman and found him faking a smile, trying to be happy for Foster. Torres could read the concern and longing behind that smile. If he cared for Foster so much, why didn't he say anything about her husband's lies?

"Her husband was lying," Torres commented as she watched Foster and her husband left the room. She turned back to Lightman to see his response.

"How's that case coming along?" Lightman asked, ignoring Ria's observation.

"Oh, it's coming along great," Ria said, leaving out the details. She wanted to know why he wasn't acknowledging that Foster's husband was lying. Torres knew that he saw it. "Why didn't you tell Foster about her husband?"

"Get back to work, Torres," Lightman ordered. He got up from his chair and left the room, leaving Torres to her thoughts. She would never understand why Lightman did things.
