Title: Lighting the Fire

Author: NailPolishWearingAssassin

Rating: Pg-13

Summary: He's tired of fangirls putting him with his best friend in pairings. So, there's only one thing to do... hook that fox up with someone else!

Disclaimer: Don't own it.

Spoilers: Well, it kinda gives away the series ending, I suppose, so...

Author's Note: My friend pointed out that there aren't enough KuramaXMukuro stories. We also both agreed that HieiXKurama pairings would never work out, especially the way people tend to write them. Therefore, I ended up writing this.

Lighting the Fire

Chapter 1

"Kurama."

"Yes, Hiei, what is it?"

The two demons were sitting, one in a tree and one on the ground below, in a wooded area in the Makai. Hiei, the one in the tree obviously, didn't answer right away, as though thinking of what he was about to say. Finally, he spoke.

"You need a mate."

Kurama would have probably fallen over onto his face had he not been sitting on the ground and had he not heard such ridiculous (at least, they were in his mind) words come out of Hiei's mouth before. This conversation had been occurring frequently for some months. Instead, the former fox demon opted for sighing and gently bringing his hand to his temple as though he suddenly had a headache... then again, maybe he did.

"Hiei," Kurama said, "I am not getting a girlfriend and I'm not going through this subject with you again."

"Hn, I don't see why you are resisting this so much, Fox," Hiei snorted, "Your mother's dead now, it's not as if you need to be loyal and care for her anymore. Besides, I'm tired of that stupid Ferrygirl trying to pair us off together." Kurama had to resist the urge to sigh again.

"Is Botan bothering you again?"

"No, not anymore, but when you incinerate someone with demonic flames..."

"Hiei!"

"Hn, relax, Fox, I didn't kill her." Kurama looked up at where his black-clad friend sat in the tree branches. Hiei appeared as disinterested in what was going on as ever. The words 'stubborn little midget' instantly ran through Kurama's mind and he chuckled lightly, earning him a glare from his friend.

"We should head back," Kurama smiled, getting to his feet, "Mukuro's probably wondering where her heir has gotten to. She might even go so far as to assume we've both been kidnapped at this point."

"Hn, why should I care?" Hiei asked in annoyance, though he jumped down from his branch anyway. He glared once again when he saw that knowing smile on Kurama's face, "Hn, let's just go."
