Thought I was Earnhardt

Drivin' fast but I didn't see the ditch

Took out a mailbox, then a fence and then a barn

The police came and called my father

But I met the farmer's daughter

And when the judge asked me why I did it

He threw the book at me when I told him

"Cause the chicks dig it"

Just throw caution to the wind my friend

Then sit back and watch your life begin, 'cause

Scars heal, glory fades

And all we're left with are the memories made

Pain hurts, but only for a minute

Yeah life is short so go on and live it

It don't matter if you lose or if you win it

Hey the chicks dig it

The chicks dig it

the chicks dig it

the chicks dig it

-Chris Cagle, Chicks Dig It

Edward and I met growing up. His family moved next door to my father's house so I would see him for the two weeks that I would visit my father in the summer. After the first summer when I had first met him, we kept in contact through emails and phone calls, eventually through texting as well. He actually made me look forward to coming to Forks. Edward and his brother Emmett and their friend Jasper were always doing stupid shit, usually causing one of them to get hurt. I would always be on the sidelines, watching with Edward's sister Alice and Jasper's sister Rosalie. Luckily, Mr. Cullen was a doctor and usually had the boys patched up and back playing around in no time.

This year wasn't going to be very different, except for the fact that we were all 16 now and Edward had gotten his license. So now the stupid stunts had started to involve cars. As soon as Edward was given the keys to his Volvo, he had started seeing how fast he could go, just as I suspected. I'm sure everyone had hoped that he would have calmed down by now, but none of the boys had. In fact, we were beginning to think they were lost causes.

As I stepped off the plain, I smiled knowing I was going to be with my closes friends soon. I walked down to baggage claim and was surprised when someone wrapped their arms around me. I yelped a bit, but instantly recognized the chest I was being pulled into. Over the years, my friendship with Edward had also grown into a crush, well on my side at least. I tried to never let him know and so far he had yet to acknowledge it with made me both happy and nervous.

"If you don't let me go then you'll have to face the wrath of the Forks police chief." I said with mock seriousness.

"Hm… I think I can take on old Chief Swan." Edward laughed. He let me go slightly so I could turn around and wrap my arms around his neck.

"What are you doing here? I thought Charlie was going to come pick me up?"

"O he was, but I talked to him and convinced him to let me come pick you up, and since he's fishing in La Push today, you will also be spending the night at my house."

"You didn't talk to Charlie, Alice talked to Charlie."

"True enough, but the end results are still the same." Edward shrugged. "Now come on, we need to get back. We're going out and playing baseball tonight."

"Baseball?"

"Hell ya, it's going to be raining tonight and you know how we are."

"O god." I groaned. I did know how the boys were. For some reason they decided they would only play baseball in the rain. Why? We have no idea.

"Aw come on Bella, it'll be fun." Edward grinned. We picked up my bags and Edward threw one over his shoulder as he took my hand to lead us out. We threw my bags into the trunk of his car and he helped me into my seat like the gentleman a few of us knew him as. Once we were on the road it was like Edward's foot could only keep pushing the gas. I watched as the needle on the speedometer kept moving to the right…

"Edward, how fast were you planning on driving?"

"Bella, we're only going 85."

"Yes, but we're only going faster." I replied.

"You truly are the daughter of a cop." Edward laughed.

"Hey!" I cried, slapping his arm slightly. Still, I noticed how Edward did take his foot off of the pedal and the car started to reduce in speed, slightly.

When we got to Edward's house, his sister was already waiting for me at the door and wrapped me in a hug. Emmett was next and I was nearly suffocated, which is nothing new with him, following by quick hugs from the Hales. I was quickly ushered into the house where Esme already had dinner on the table. We all told stories of the past year, well more like they told stories of the next year since nothing ever really happened in my life till I came back to Forks.

"Aren't you kids going out tonight?" Esme asked as she cleared the plates.

"It's not going to rain for another two hours." Alice sighed.

"I still don't understand you kids, but I have a feeling that I'm never going to."

"Probably not." Emmett said.

"Why don't we go early?" Edward said. "I'm sure we could figure out something to do."

"Alright, I'm down." Emmett said, jumping up and grabbing his keys.

Alice, Jasper, Emmett, and Rosalie all piled into the jeep while Edward and I got into his Volvo. I'd always thought it was awkward how we separated into groups, especially since everyone except Edward and I were dating. Then it was just awkward for us, well me really.

"Emmett wants to race." Edward said.

"Here? Now?"

"No, when we get there he does."

"You're really going to take your Volvo on some dirt road?"

"Of course not. We'll race before we head out to the field and then join up again before we head out. Don't worry Bella, we race all the time."

"Doesn't mean I like it." I mumbled. Edward laughed and shook his head, but didn't say anything else.

When we got to the parking lot, Rosalie was glaring at Emmett and giving him the cold shoulder. Jasper was holding Alice off to the side who looked worried, which is understandable since both of her brothers were about to do their most idiotic stunt of them all. I walked over to Rose and stood close to her, hoping she'd provide me with some comfort.

"They're being so stupid." She sighed.

"Edward said they do this all the time."

"They do, but they're stupid about it." Rose explained. "I just want one of them to stop and I have a feeling that isn't going to happen until one of them gets hurt."

"You don't think that's going to be tonight do you?" I asked.

"I don't know. Alice has never looked this worried and she was telling Emmett not to race." Ah yes, Alice our little psychic. Usually when she has a feeling you listen to it, but of course the boys chose now not to.

"Now I'm worried even more."

"They'll be fine… I hope." Rose sighed.

Emmett and Edward drove down the road for a bit, until their tail lights were all we could see. Then they turned around and lined up. They both had turned on their cabin lights so we could actually see them. Both of them looked incredibly confident as they started revving their engines. I held my breath and they started, tearing down the street. Of course now the rain also started to come down, making the roads slick. I sucked in another breath as they flew by us and then headed toward a curve. I wanted to close my eyes and hide, but I couldn't…

As they were going around it, Edward's care drifted slightly, but he overcorrected, throwing his car over the side of the road where he tried to pull off the field, but landed in a ditch. Everything seemed to happen so fast and yet so slow at the same time. Before I knew it I was running down the road. I could hear Alice behind me on the phone with the 911 dispatcher, but I didn't care. I just had to get to Edward… Emmett was already pulling Edward out of his car when I got there. Emmett looked worried, but Edward was smiling like the idiot he was. He had blood dripping down the side of his head, but I could tell he was talking to Emmett, probably claiming that he won.

"Edward, are you alright?"

"Of course I am!" I said. "I totally won, didn't I?"

"Edward, you nearly died!" I screamed.

"Ow." Edward winced. "Please, can you keep your voice down?" Edward groaned.

"Are you hurt anywhere other than your head?"

"Uh… my shoulder hurts, and my stomach hurts…"

"The ambulence is on the way." Alice said when she caught up.

"Emmett! I told you something like this could happen!" Rosalie screamed. She slapped him on the back of the head once before breaking down and wrapping her arms around him. She started fussing over him much like I was fussing over Edward. We had Edward seated away from his now smoking car and I was trying to see if anything else was hurt.

"Bella, what are you doing here?" I looked back at the road and saw Charlie getting out of his cruiser.

"I thought you said he was fishing." I hissed at Edward.

"He was." Edward confirmed.

"I'm on the way home and what do I hear on the radio? A racing accident the Cullens are involved in!"

"Hi Charlie." I mumbled.

"Who's hurt?"

"Just Edward." I answered.

"Who was driving?" Charlie asked.

"Edward and I were." Emmett confessed.

"I assume that's Edward's car in the ditch?" Charlie asked.

"Yes sir."

"Well, the ambulance is already on the way here. They'll take Edward to the hospital and to your father. Emmett, you're coming with me. I'm sure your sister or someone can drive your jeep home."

"Yes sir." Emmett sighed. He kissed Rose one last time before handing the keys over to Jasper.

"Bella… you should head home."

"Could I ride to the hospital with Edward? Make sure everything is fine?" I asked.

"I'll call Carlisle and have him give you a ride home at the end of his shift." Charlie sighed after a few seconds. "One last question boys… why'd you do it?"

"Cause the chicks dig it, old man." Emmett grinned. He gave us a thumbs up before getting into the back of Charlie's cruiser.

By the time Charlie was ready to go, and I had gotten a lecture off to the side, a few other cops had showed up and the EMT's were already looking over Edward. Charlie cleared it with them to have me go with Edward to the hospital so we were soon leaving the soon.

"You're still an idiot." I mumbled to Edward.

"Aw come on babe." Edward groaned. "It won't hurt for too long and you know scars are like badges of honor for me and my brother."

"How could I forget? I know how you got all of them." I sighed.

"Dad will have me patched up in no time." Edward grinned.

"I wouldn't be sure about that Ed," one of the EMT's said, "he's pretty pissed."

"Shit." Edward said.

"Now you're in trouble." I sighed.

"So, why did you want to come with me?"

"Because I wanted to make sure you were ok." I said.

"I think there's another reason."

"Hm?"

"I think there's another reason you came with me. Possibly the same reason as to why you were so worried."

"Edward, you know I like you." I sighed.

"No, I think it's something more." Edward grinned.

I froze; I didn't know how to respond. Edward grabbed my hand and pulled me down. Since I wasn't prepared I all but fell onto his chest. He winced, but recovered quickly. "Edward, what are you-"

He kissed me. Edward Cullen was kissing me.

"I was on Alice's computer last night while she was on the phone with you father. I came across some old emails."

"You know?"

"I know and I love you too." Edward whispered.

This time I bent down without being pulled down and pressed my lips to his. "I love you too." I whispered.

"Well, while we hate to break up this moment, we're here an Carlisle looks like he's going to throttle someone." The EMT said.

"You guys have perfect timing." Edward all but growled. The EMTs laughed, but I still followed them out of the ambulance so they could help Edward out. I walked over to Carlisle where he greeted me stiffly as he eyed his son getting wheeled over.

"What the hell were you thinking?"

"Nice to see you too." Edward said.

"I can't believe you. You'll be getting xrays first and then we'll go from there. You don't know how lucky you are."

"I think I do." Edward said as he looked over at me. I blushed slightly, but didn't say anything. Carlisle looked between us and rolled his eyes before signaling for Edward's gurney to get moved.

"Bella, you can wait out here." Carlisle said. "I should be getting off about the same time Edward is cleared if there are no major injuries."

"Alright." I nodded. I found my seat and picked up a magazine. I was really going through the motions of waiting. I had been to the hospital for my own injuries as well coming for Edward and his brothers so I knew the routine. So I got comfortable and started the long wait.

I looked up after a few hours to see Edward walking out. His arm was in a cast and there was a band-aid on his head. He smiled at me and came over to the chair next to me. "Dad gets off in another hour."

"Mk." I answered.

"So, were you impressed?"

"With what?" I asked.

"With what was my car and the race."

"I never cared about those things, especially the race… mainly race."

"What about that time that I jumped off the roof?"

"A little till you got hurt."

"What about…"

"Some of the things you did were impressive, but they were stupid. I'm just tired of watching you hurt yourself."

"I'm not going to change."

"I never asked you to. I know you're still going to do stupid shit, it just better not be to impress me."

"It will always be to impress you." Edward said, leaning over and kissing my cheek.

"Mhm." I replied. "So what was the final diagnosis?"

"Minor concussion, broken arm, and bruised ribs." Edward sighed. "I guess you get to nurse me back to health again."

"My dad's not going to let me anywhere near you." I sighed.

"I'm sure we can work around that…" Edward grinned. He patted my knee before leaning back in his chair a bit more.

oOoOoOo

Charlie had indeed banned me from going to over to see Edward and hadn't been thrilled in the least to find out that Edward and I were now together. He tried to break that one up, but we both knew it wasn't going to work, especially when I told Renee and she told me to remind Charlie of some of the things he used to do. He shut up pretty quick after that.

So here I was, sitting on my bed, bored since Alice had left for the night. I had already checked my email and facebook so now I was just going through the motions. I was startled out of my trance when there was a tapping on my window. I looked over to see Edward sitting on the tree outside.

"What are you doing here?" I hissed.

"You think I was going to let your old man keep me away?" Edward grinned.

"You could have hurt your arm." I said. "Or your ribs I hissed."

"But I'm fine." Edward said. He kissed me, pushing me slightly backwards so I was lying on my bed. He crawled in next to me and cuddled me into his good side.

"So how are your parents punishing you this time?"

"No car, grounded, no phone, hence the no texts." Edward shrugged. He played with my hair for a bit.

"So you snuck out to come see me?"

"Yup." Edward said.

"Well I have to say, I feel honored." I looked up at him and brushed my lips on his.

"That's how I want you to feel." Edward whispered against my lips.

I carefully rolled over, making sure not to put too much pressure on his side and arm that were still sore. My hair made a curtain around us as our tongues started to tangle together. Edward gripped my hips, letting me feel his growing member. Both of my hands went to his face, caressing his gravely jaw. I sucked on his lower lip for a bit, before picking my head up for a bit.

"You know we shouldn't go much farther."

"You know I could care less." I replied.

Edward groaned and flipped us over, minimizing the pain in his sore side. His hands ran up and down my sides, slipping under my t-shirt for a bit. Our lips were once more interlaced together, but my hands were now traveling the expanses of his back. Sure, Edward and I had shared a few kisses over the years, but that was nothing like this one. I moaned and arched up into Edward. He laughed, but soon his lips were leaving mine. I whimpered and I tried to pull Edward back to me, but he just continued to grin. Edward fell back onto his back and once more buried me into his side.

"Why'd you stop?" I pouted.

"Cause I needed to before it got too far since someone didn't have plans to." I pouted, but didn't argue with that fact, especially considering we both knew it was true. "When do you leave this year?"

"In two weeks."

"So I get a few more days with you?"

"If you can convince Charlie you're safe."

"Ya, I don't think he appreciated the fact we were doing it because the chicks dig it." Edward laughed.

"No, he didn't." I replied with a slight laugh of my own.

"I'll have Alice talk to him then." Edward grinned. "She can get him to agree to anything."

"True, but she also told him you'd be gone on that last excuse." I replied.

"True, but this is Alice we're talking about."

"Ya, she does have Charlie wrapped around her finger." I conceded.

We spent the rest of the night cuddling and talking, with the occasional kissing and touching thrown in. Nothing went too far because even though Edward had this reckless teen, bad-boy image, he was still the gentleman his mother raised him to be. I fell asleep on his shoulder, which was more comfortable than any other night I had fallen asleep here. When I woke up in the morning, Edward was gone, which I expected, even if I didn't like it.

oOoOoOo

Alice did convince Charlie that while her brothers were stupid and sometimes recklessly irresponsible, they would never endanger the lives of those they cared about, hence the reason they were the only two in the cars. She then also leaked that Edward and I were dating, which Charlie fumed about for a few minutes, but Alice once more calmed him down. I think the most calming thing to Charlie was the fact that I was in Arizona for most of the year, which wasn't going to be true if I could help it.

When I talked to mom, she was thrilled that I had finally met someone, although she had always suspected that it would be the Cullen boy I was always talking about. When I brought up the idea that I move in permanently with Charlie, she wasn't as happy. However, she couldn't refuse my logic since she was about to be traveling with her new husband Phil all the time and Edward was here. After a long conversation with Charlie, he agreed and I was flying back to Phoenix. However, this time, I was coming right back to Forks, right back to Edward.
