I just saw this movie and I fell in love with it. Just, the music, the love story, the characters, the emotion…great. Just great. So, I am a little obsessed with it right now, and it just so happens I had a voice lesson today where I sang two songs: On My Own and A Quiet Thing. So, I came up with two oneshots, this one the first. I'm sure my mom would be glad to know my voice lessons are only resulting in me thinking up stories for fanfiction.
Spoilers!
They set the last table, hung the last curtain. Two years of second shifts and penny pinching had finally payed off. The name of their restaurant lit up the New Orleans sky, reflecting off the wet black pavement. Tiana's Place. She had offered to add Naveen's name to the title, but he refused.
"It's yours. You're the one who dreamed so long for it." He had said.
They stood on the sidewalk in front of the building. It truly was beautiful. The reds and golds shown out, creating a classy but pleasing look. Tiana sighed, wrapping her arms around her husband's chest as she continued to stare at all her hard work. His arm hugged her shoulders, making her feel warm and safe.
"Time to go home?" He asked. She nodded. Turning, they walked across the street to where their apartment was, right in view of the restaurant. It wasn't huge, but comfortable and just right for a young couple with no kids. But who knows, maybe that will change in the coming years.
Naveen headed to the kitchen, coming back with a bottle of wine.
"To celebrate." He said. She grinned, taking a glass and sipping. He sat down on the sofa over by the window looking to Tiana's Place. She sat next to him, resting her head in the crook of his neck. His hand rubbed her arm affectionately. Together they stared at it, no sounds breaking the peaceful night.
"You know what's odd?" Tiana asked suddenly.
"What?"
"When I imagined getting my restaurant, I imagined it…" She paused. "Louder."
Naveen raised an eyebrow. "Louder?"
"Like…I expected to hear fireworks in my head, bells ringing, sounds of triumphs that I've finally gotten everything I always wanted. And there isn't anything like that. Its…it's a quiet thing."
He ran his fingers through her curly hair, grinning his handsome grin at her. No matter how often she saw it, it always made her heart beat faster.
"For me, too."
She glanced out the window, seeing a bird land on the sill.
"Do you ever wish you could still talk to them?" She asked, it having been two years since she could hear an animal speak.
"All the time." Naveen admitted, "I miss being able to talk to Louis." He rested his head against the back of the couch, and no more words were spoken. After a while, he drifted off to sleep, his arm resting limply on Tiana's waist. She stayed put, staring out the window. The restaurant looked even more beautiful from here. Right above it shown Evangeline and Ray, twinkling together. A tear started to form in her eye, thinking back to everything the little firefly had done for them. She remembered the night Naveen taught her to dance, back when they were still frogs. She glanced at her sleeping husband, rubbing his hand with her own. Though he certainly did not look it, he was still her little frog, naïve and charming.
Her father's dream had finally come true. She had her place. But more importantly, she had love.
She rested her head back into the crook of her prince's neck and fell into a quiet, peaceful sleep.
