A/N: Hey, guys~! This has been on my mind for quite some time. I don't know if this scene will make it into Delta S Equals Mess, and I really wanted to do something with it. So, here it is! Please tell me what you think. I appreciate all the reviews I get and the favorites and alerts, too.
Just so you know, this is a scene where Kaoru is curious about Kagome as she's been acting strange. Because of this, Kagome decides to tell him of her adventures. Enjoy!
...
"You remember that story we learned about in History last month?"
The tale of the Shikon no Tama... She couldn't bring herself to say it out loud.
Her question caught him off guard. Kaoru looked at her for a few seconds before he nodded, turning his gaze back out to the view the Seishun roof provided.
"It's not just a story. Well, it kind of is, but-you see-" she sighed.
Both were silent for a minute, before the black-haired miko spoke again.
"Please tell me what you know of the story, Kaoru-kun."
The second year tennis regular gave a noncommittal hiss, curious as to why she was asking him such things. "The priestess broke a jewel and traveled around to gather up the missing pieces."
Kagome smiled sadly. "She eventually completed it, ne?"
Kaoru nodded once again, glancing at her with curiosity.
"She also time traveled, correct?" Kagome ground her left toe into the floor in nervousness.
"Through a well, supposedly."
"Yes, a well," The miko took a deep breath to steady herself, a hand against the wall."Do you ever wonder where or what that girl went or did after her quest was finished? Like to modern day Japan?"
Kaoru was silent, a contemplative look crossing his features.
"What if she attended Seishun Koukou Gakuen as a second year?"
His eyes flashed in recognition. Kagome couldn't bear to look in his direction. Being so open with someone was terrifying. What would they think? How would they react? Would they believe her to be crazy? Kagome bit her lip, tears started to form in her eyes. When did I get to be this weak?
"How?"
The miko's head shot up. "What?"
Kaoru turned from his position on the wall to see her fully. "How did you do it? When?"
He's not freaking out.. Kagome wiped away her unshed tears, surprised. She turned and smiled at him, albeit sadly once again. "It's been two months since I transferred here, correct? So, I would say that the final battle was won a week before that."
"What about your companions?"
Tears formed in Kagome's eyes once again. "I had to leave them all behind," she took a shaky breath. "Shippo said he'd find me—and Koga did, too—but I haven't seen him yet. Sesshomaru made me his heir. I live with him. I-I miss them all so much."
Kagome put her face in her hands as the tears fell. Sobs wracked her body as she slid down the wall. She felt arms wrap around her and looked up, tears still streaming down her face. Kaoru was kneeling next to her, arms around her shoulders. He looked away from her, a tinge of pink on his cheeks.
"Let it out," he spoke spoke softly. Kagome didn't need another invitation. All these pent up emotions were taking a toll on her.
The two stayed like that for hours. She cried into his chest as he held her upon the school roof. When finally finished, Kagome pulled away.
"Thank you," she wiped her eyes on her sleeve.
Kaoru hissed. "Don't let your emotions build up like that. It only makes it worse."
"Hai."
Standing up, the black-haired miko dusted herself off. Kaoru followed suit, readjusting his bandana. Glancing at the sky, she was surprised to see that the sun had already set.
"Ah! When did it get to be this late! Shit! Sesshomaru's going to kill me!"
And with that, she ran back inside, down the stairs, and off. Kaoru sighed.
