Disclaimer: I do not own Percy Jackson and the Olympians or any of its settings and characters.
Percy Jackson swam swiftly through the clear blue water of Goode High's swimming pool. He'd been swimming for about an hour now, not bothering to come up for air. Nobody else was in the gym, wanting to get home as quickly as possible on a Friday afternoon, but Percy had decided to stay and swim before meeting his girlfriend, Annabeth, at four. He loved swimming in the school's pool. He always felt better in the water; stronger, more alert, his thoughts even seemed clearer.
He had joined the swim team at his mother Sally's request. "Go and join something: a sport, a club, the band. Maybe it'll make you feel less stressed if you have an extracurricular activity." He knew what that meant, she wanted him to feel normal. To do activities that weren't related to sword fights and prophecies, and other things that came with being a Demigod. Percy didn't know if this would be of any help, but he decided he would join something to appease his mother. He didn't know what he could join though, nothing academic (book club was out of the question), he couldn't imagine himself on the football team (he wasn't a fan of those jocks), and he couldn't play a musical instrument to save his life. Then he saw tryouts for the swim team. Now swimming, that's something I can do, he thought. He thoroughly enjoyed being on the swim team, and his mom was right, it did make him feel slightly more normal. That is until he realized he couldn't remember the last time he resurfaced for air.
As he emerged from the water, he was surprised to see a curly blonde girl sitting at the edge of the pool.
"I think you're definitely going to set a new record at the meet, Seaweed Brain," His girlfriend Annabeth Chase told him," But you might want to dial it down a bit."
"Annabeth! What are you doing here? I thought I was meeting you later." Percy replied, a little uneasy that he hadn't noticed anyone come in, but happy to see her nonetheless.
"Well I figured you were here so I decided I'd come and meet you," she replied with a smile."Though, I still think it's cheating for the Son of the Sea God to be on the swim team."
"I could say the same about the Goddess of Wisdom's daughter being on the academic decathlon team," says Percy with a wink.
Annabeth blushes slightly and then leans down to splash Percy in the face. Percy blinks at the water and tries hard not to laugh. With one swift motion he wills a little wave to crash against Annabeth's crouched body. Startled, Annabeth jumps to her feet.
"Percy Jackson, I can't believe you just did that." She says with a glare on her face that doesn't quite reach her eyes.
"Just a tip Wise Girl, you shouldn't start a splash fight with the Son of Poseidon."
"Oh, now that's definitely cheating," Annabeth says, not even trying to hide here amusement now.
Percy laughed and made his way to the ladder to get out of the pool. Annabeth met him halfway to hand him his towel, but he was still chuckling and the mischief hadn't left his eyes yet. He ignored the towel and kept moving closer to Annabeth.
"Don't you dare," she half whispered in a low, dangerous voice. Percy smiled wider and kept advancing. She moved backwards, he moved forward. Back, forward. Back, Forward.
"Perc..." but before she could finish, he had swept her up in a big hug.
"Ughh Percy! I'm soaked now!" She struggled against his embrace but he wasn't budging.
"Am I still a cheater?" He questioned.
"Yes!" she said, but she was laughing now, and slowly wrapped her hands around his neck.
"Oh well," Percy whispered and leaned down to place his lips against Annabeth's.
