A man went to church one Sunday and parked in a spot

"Hey," scolded a woman, "You took my place

"And don't you know young man

"Just how hard it is to get a space"

The man looked up and gently said

"Ma'am I didn't know

"I'll park in another place

"I'll find somewhere else to go"

The man walked into church

And sat down in a pew

"Hey sir get out of this seat," said another man

"It doesn't belong to you

"You took my place

"I sit here always"

The man just smiled

That pew he did leave

When the preacher said "Now let us all rise to praise the Son

The man stood proud and tall

Something changed about him

His eyes grew sad and small

You could see the holes in his hands

And a crown upon his head

He looked so pale and pained

He might well have been dead

He had a scar upon his side

That seemed to go all the way through

Someone looked at him and asked

"Sir what happened to you"

He looked at the crowd and spoke softly

With an air of calm and grace

"I loved you all so much," He said

"That I took your place"
