Charlie Brown walked to school.
Lucy had just gotten finished with insulting him. Her favorite insult was blockhead.
It was getting harder and harder to not take those insults personally.
Charlie Brown's other antagonists, like Violet and Patty, had recently stopped calling him a blockhead on a daily basis, but Lucy still clawed away at his self esteem.
Charlie Brown had almost completely gotten used to it.
Almost.
Not realizing where he was going, Charlie Brown bumped into someone.
"Oh. Sorry." he said as he continued on his way.
"Well, well. If it isn't good ol' Charlie Brown."
Charlie Brown looked up to see the new kid in school, Colby McFrank.
Colby didn't worry him. The five guys behind him did.
"We've been looking for you. I've got a bone to pick with you Brown."
"What did I ever do to you?"
"It's not what you did to me, it's what you did to my sister!"
"Your sister…Sarah McFrank?"
"She is the best baseball player I've ever seen! Yet you left her off the team."
"It's true, she does know the game well. She showed that at the tryouts. And her batting average speaks for itself."
"Then why didn't you let her on the team?"
"She wasn't a team player. No one got along with her, and she preferred to do things solo instead of letting others help out. She would make a pretty good tennis player."
"Tennis is for wimps!"
"My dog plays tennis."
"Oh! So now you're lying to me? Dogs can't play tennis!"
Colby pushed Charlie Brown onto the ground. "Come on, boys! Let's teach this blockhead a lesson!"
There it was again. That word.
Blockhead.
Charlie Brown decided that he was right. That Lucy was right. He was a blockhead. A wishy-washy blockhead. He should just except his punishment and be done with it. He closed his eyes and braced himself for the first hit.
It never came.
Charlie Brown heard the distinct sound of a fist against a face, but he felt no pain.
As if he wasn't the one who was hit.
He opened his eyes and confirmed his suspicion.
He wasn't hit.
Colby was.
By Lucy.
Colby got up and eyed the girl in front of him.
"Leave." she growled.
Colby started laughing. His friends laughed too. Surly she couldn't do anything serious to them.
Without a word, she kicked Colby in the crotch.
"As I was saying… LEAVE!"
The five boys thought it best to follow her advice, but Colby had to limp away.
Lucy took a deep breath and calmed herself down.
She had just got Violet and Patty to stop calling Charlie Brown a blockhead.
She didn't need anyone else to deal with.
Charlie Brown just starred at her, dumbfounded.
"W-why did you do that?"
Lucy looked at him with an expression he'd never before seen in her eyes.
Tenderness.
"I'm the only one who can call you a blockhead."
After that, Charlie Brown found it easier and easier to not take her insults personally.
He knew there was no malice in them.
In fact, they seemed to have a hint of friendliness.
Later in life, the term "Blockhead" became synonymous to the term "Sweet Babboo."
Charlie Brown was still a blockhead.
But he was Lucy's blockhead.
Well, that was my first Peanuts fanfic. Hope you liked it and even if you didn't, please review.
