Oil and Water

It's a proven fact that oil and water don't mix. This was a fact I knew very well because my best mate just couldn't get along with the girl he liked. They coincidentally happen to be the perfect example of this fact. Lily Evans was the oil. She gave life a bite. She was slick and sleek, always making life more interesting. James Potter was the water. (Haha (: That rhymed) He was laid back and calm but when shaken up was wild and unrelenting. He was just always there and nobody took him for granted. He was the peace maker.

I stepped out of the Common Room and walked down to the Entrance Hall. What met my eyes was intriguing. After all these years of her rejecting him and me picking up the pieces, I thought it wasn't meant to be. But there, right in front of my eyes, was The Lily Evans, The Oil, laughing and joking around with The James Potter, The Water, her arch enemy. I slowly walked over to them and they looked my way before going back to their chatting. Things had been different this year. James had grown up and he and Lily became friends. We were down by the lake now, and we were all messing around for no apparent reason.

Then something happened that doesn't change the fact, just makes you look at it in a new light. The water and oil started talking seriously and before I knew it, James leaned in and kissed Lily gently on the lips. He had pulled back slowly to judge her reaction, when James was roughly pulled back to Lily and I laughed out loud. Soon after though I had begun to feel like a third wheel. That was until wolf-whistling broke out. Everyone was laughing and James and Lily looked incredibly embarrassed. Together they walked off holding hands and I smiled before thinking about my earlier statement in the Common Room.

It's true, oil and water don't mix. But, by just looking at Lily and James, I thought, they do perfect side by side.
