PlatyborgstoShadowlytes: This is a one-shot in the spirit of Memorial Day. It's not all about hot dogs, hamburgers, picnics, and grilling (although those are all wonderful things); it's about the men and women who sacrificed (and are sacrificing) in order to keep us free. I just felt like something had to be done in order to remind others about the true reason for this day. Have a Blessed Memorial Day everyone! Let's remember those who give all so that we may have much.
And now, a Memorial Day one-shot, Phineas and Ferb styled.
"The Tangerine, Brown, and Teal"
This is the day when we all remember,
Our heads are now bowed low;
A silent pause,
For those abroad,
And for all others who soon will go.
But I just isn't in Iraq,
Or in some far and foreign place;
In the name of pure, true freedom,
Many people will forever miss a loved one's face.
But someone tell me why, now,
When we could be enjoying a barbeque;
Why, that in the name of freedom,
The loved one that should leave had to be you?
Every day, on your excursions,
Ones of which we didn't have a clue;
To protect, not only our family,
But all those in the Tri-State Area, too.
That man that you daily defeated,
Who knew where we'd be now if he had won.
Our household pet, oh so humble,
Had never boasted about what you've done.
But now that we know where you went,
It's too late to utter "thank you";
Even if we did, I know
That where you are now, it wouldn't help you.
I hope that you're somewhere peaceful,
Free from strife and war;
But I shall wait here tearfully,
Knowing, that for freedom, I won't see you anymore.
So now with flowers in my hand,
Looking on a scene that seems unreal,
I raise my hand, and salute
Not just for the Red, White and Blue,
Not just for the men and the women,
Who, for the sake of freedom,
Give all that they have for me and you.
So now with flowers in my hand,
Looking on a scene that seems unreal;
I raise my hand and salute,
Not just for Red, White, and Blue,
But also for the Tangerine, Brown, and Teal.
Author's Note: (Runs off sobbing). Hope you guys like this! This is a one-shot, not story. I just really thought that we needed to be reminded about what Memorial Day was actually about, although it's sad to remember. Now, where's the Kleenex when you need it?
