A Halloween That Changed Everything

Lily was getting ready for the Masquerade Ball that Hogwarts was having as a Halloween party this year. She had decided to wear a flowy sapphire dress that ended just above the knee. She also had designed her own mask. It was a beautiful golden color with intricate silver designs around the eyes in glitter. It took quite a long time to design the swirls around the eyes, but all in all, Lily was very happy with it.

Now Lily was putting the finishing touches on her costume. She applied a bit of eye liner and then turned to look in the mirror. She gasped. Her thick scarlet curls were cascading neatly down her back and shoulders. Her dress showed off her wonderful curves and her mask fit her face snugly. She never looked this good without any of this on. Lily heard the door open and she flung around.

Her friend, Kelli, was standing there in a long red dress with her mouth open.

"Oh Lils! You look gorgeous!" Kelli cried, rushing over.

"You look nice too!" Lily said, blushing a bit.

"Oh, but you look more wonderful!"

"Really, Kelli, It's nothing..."

Kelli smiled, but said nothing more about the issue, "D'you want to see my mask?"

Lily nodded enthusiastically and smiled wide when Kelli showed her the mask. It was light green with purple sequins decorated on it.

"It's great!"

Kelli thanked Lily and they both hurried down to the Ball.

The Great Hall was decorated with silk in colors of each house. There were bats fluttering around the ceiling and there were large carved pumpkins the size of Hagrid himself. Lily and Kelli both headed over to the snacks. They both took a cookie and began to eat, eying the boys on the dance floor. It wasn't long before a tall, muddy-haired boy asked Kelli to dance. Kelli blushed bright red, but followed him onto the dance floor. Lily smiled and finished her second cookie. She looked around. It had been at least an hour since the dance started and no one asked her to dance.

Frowning, Lily turned her back to the dance floor. As soon as she did, she felt someone tap on her shoulder. She spun around and saw a boy, looking slightly older than herself. He had platinum blonde hair and stormy gray eyes that matched his gray dress robes. His mask was sapphire blue, matching the tiny blue flecks in his gray irises. The small amount of face she could see looked angelic, and his lips were thin.

"May I have this dance?" He asked, sounding like a true gentleman.

Lily smiled," Yes."

She took his hand and he lead her out onto the dance floor. The song was a bit more upbeat. The mystery boy spun her around and did crazy moves that made Lily laugh. They both danced and laughed until a slower song came on. Lily put her arms around his neck and he put his arms around their waist. He pulled her in close and they began to dance slowly. Lily looked up into his eyes and smiled.

His gray pools flickered down to her lips. The glance did not go unnoticed by Lily. She leaned up and kissed him softly. He kissed back and deepened it. After a moment, they broke away. Lily smiled.

"Can I see who my prince is?" She asked.

"As long as I can see who my fair maiden is."

Lily smiled and pulled off her mask as he pulled of his. Scorpius Malfoy was standing before her. And she knew from that moment on, the rest of the school would have a field day with this.
