Redemption
Chapter 1: The Only Survivor
June 2, 2032
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
"We're going to storm the building in five minutes! Men, get your weapons ready, and be careful, as these guys are armed with automatic weapons and grenades, so watch your backs in there! We've also gotten word that there may be a bomb in the building, so be very careful shooting into dark places, as the bomb may go off at any time!"
The Special Forces team of policemen listened to the bellowing voice of Captain Miller, who was in charge of their Special Forces Squad. Their squad was lined up outside the building, getting ready to flush out the terrorists inside. At the back of the group, in his full body armor, gas mask and helmet was a policeman by the name of Jeff Schneider. He was a slightly tall, lean man of about 6'1, and he had black hair with a kind of gray tint to it. He was only 24 years old, though this was his sixth year with the Philadelphia Police Force, as he had become a Special Forces, aka SWAT, policeman at the young age of 18. He hadn't been called to action much so far during his career, but this urgent matter had to be handled by the best of the best, and the Special Forces team to which he belonged was the only section of Philadelphia's Police Force that were able to execute this mission perfectly. He was holding an automatic weapon, as were all the other members of the Special Forces team in front of him. The rest of his team, which was comprised of 14 men, included one of his closest friends, a man by the name of Cory Schindler, who was the same age as Jeff and standing near the front of the squad. They had known each other for the past six years, ever since they had enlisted in SWAT together. However, Cory was almost always paranoid about dying ever since he had enlisted, but Jeff would always tell him that the more he'd worry about it, the likelihood of him dying would increase. Jeff was snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of the Captain's voice.
"Get ready, men! Have your weapons loaded! We're storming in, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1, GO! GO! GO!" The Captain kicked down the door and rushed inside, the other 13 men rushing in behind him. As they burst into one of the downstairs rooms, 5 terrorists flipped their tables toward them and ducked under, firing their weapons toward them. Jeff had dove toward a couch, and he also found the Captain there as well, shooting back at the terrorists and ducking underneath the couch when they fired back. Jeff had never killed another person before, and was hesitant to fire his gun, but, his hesitancy to fire back was taken away. As he looked across the room, as his friend Cory put his head over cover to shoot back, a terrorist had stood up at the same time, and, before he could react, the terrorist fired right at Cory's protective helmet and gas mask, but the bullets hit the mask in its most vulnerable position, which were the eyes. As Jeff looked on in horror, his friend Cory's lifeless body slumped over against the table across the room, and, not caring about his own life for a moment, Jeff made a mad dash for his friend Cory, holding onto the smallest of hopes that his friend was still alive. Bullets whizzed by him and the Captain barked at him to come back, but, as Jeff made it over to his friend, he knelt down and felt for a pulse, but, to his extreme sadness, his friend was gone. Grief and sadness overcame him, however, as he heard the terrorists firing at him, anger and rage began to overtake him, and he fired back at the terrorists for the first time, and the bullets hit one of the terrorists in his chest, presumably killing him. Jeff was not finished with them yet, however, as he continued firing, eventually hitting the other two men right between the eyes, their lifeless bodies falling backwards, dead in an instant. As he rushed toward their position and pointed his gun toward them, he noticed that they were dead, but then he saw that the man who had killed his friend Cory was still alive, and he was reaching for his gun. Jeff quickly shot him through the head, killing him on the spot. As he made sure he was dead, him and the Captain received an urgent message from John Schiller, one of the SWAT members who had made it upstairs.
"Captain Miller, we found the bomb sir, but it seems that it's a dud, as there's no timer on it. We've incapacitated the terrorists upstairs, and we've secured all the rooms up here. How'd it go down there, sir?"
"We killed the three terrorists down here, however, Cory is dead."
"Wait a second, Captain, the bomb just turned on by itself and now it's counting down! Only thirty seconds till it explodes!"
"Get the hell out of there, Schiller!" Suddenly, the building was rocked by an explosion, and Captain Miller and Schneider knew right then and there as they were thrown to the ground that Schiller and the other six men up there were dead. As they picked themselves up off of the floor from the explosion, the other five men who were downstairs during the explosion busted into the room and found the Captain and Schneider inside.
"Are you all right, sir? What about you, Schneider?"
"We're fine, but Schiller and his group are dead, along with Cory, who was shot through the head by one of those terrorist bastards."
One of the other men, nicknamed "Taz" by the rest of the men for being as quick as the Tasmanian Devil, walked up to the dead bodies of the terrorists and found one of the dead terrorists had a note sticking out of his pocket. As the SWAT member opened the note and read its contents, his face went pale.
"What's the matter, Taz?"
"It says here that there's going to be another attack in Niihama, Japan, one week from now."
"This is not good. We have to warn the Japanese Police about this." Just as Captain Miller finished his sentence, the seven men heard what sounded like helicopter noises outside the building coming from the direction of the city; they were faint at first but began to grow louder. Schneider could hear a commotion from the streets below from one of the windows and it didn't take long for the others to realize that. The sound of a helicopter was now alarmingly close, and Schneider quickly looked around at the other six men in the room before acting on instinct.
"Everyone get down!" It was too late, however, as the other six men, including Captain Miller, fell dead from bullets fired from the helicopter outside. Schneider continued to stay down until the withering fire ceased, and, as the whirring of the helicopter's engine continued to sound as if it was right outside the building, a spotlight from the helicopter shone in the room, and Schneider lay motionless on the floor, acting as if he was dead. He was praying that the helicopter's gunners wouldn't fire at him to make sure he was indeed dead. The light was then turned off, and Schneider then listened as the helicopter's engines continued to sound close, and Schneider then quickly got up, picked up his weapon and quickly sprinted out of the building just as the helicopter fired a missile at the room he was just in, annihilating the rest of the building and making Schneider dive for the ground. As Schneider looked on at the burning building after getting up off of the ground, he quickly took cover behind a vehicle as the helicopter passed directly over him, flying in a westerly direction. As he took a good look at the helicopter, he noticed a red star in on the underside of the aircraft. From his history lessons, there was only one known faction in history that had that symbol.
"The Soviet Union", Schneider said to himself.
'I guess I'll be booking a flight to Japan.'
Interesting developments so far, huh? It'll only get better from here, as Section 9 will be featured in the next chapter as Jeff arrives in Japan! Please review to let me know how I'm doing! This is rated T, but may change to M soon. I hope to have my OC paired up with the Major! We'll see how it all plays out!
