PROLOGUE:
I could sense my body, struggling to keep its grip. But I was losing the battle. As I faded quicker and quicker out of reality and lapsed into a state of unconsciousness, one word escaped my lips.
'Mitchie….'
Then the world went black.
CHAPTER:
As I drove home from dropping Mitchie off, I played my proposal to her through my head.
The moon, landing softly onto her and illuminating her pale skin so it looked like marble; her beautiful eyes, sparkling like the diamond I had just slipped onto her finger.
"Of course I'll marry you!" her voice echoed through my head like a chorus of bells. "I love you."
I sighed and pulled into my own driveway. As I got out, Nate came out and stood by the car.
"So, how'd it go?" he asked. I couldn't tell if it was the light or just my imagination, but he looked slightly sad as he asked me.
"It was great!" I cried, shutting the door and starting to waltz up to the front door. "She said yes!"
I jumped up into the air and shouted.
"Shane, quit acting like an idiot," Nate said, sounding annoyed. "I realize you're happy and you need to vent, but I'm not sure if the neighbors will or not. Especially the grumpy ones and especially at eleven o'clock at night."
Nate turned away and opened the door. I ran after him and slipped in just before he closed it.
"Nate, what's the matter?" I asked, coming up behind him.
"Nothing," Nate muttered, continuing to walk.
"Something's up. You can tell me."
"No I can't," Nate said. "You're the person that would understand the least."
"Come on," I coaxed. "Seriously. I promise I won't freak or anything."
Nate turned and faced me, eyes blazing.
"Shane, just shut up and leave me alone! I'm just upset, ok? Forget about it. Go be happy over your love for Mitchie or something stupid like that and leave me in peace!" Nate stormed into the living room and threw his body, face down, onto the couch. I walked slowly up to him.
"Is it about Mitchie?" I asked. Nate sat up. His eyes were red and he now looked more hurt than upset.
"You just can't leave things alone, can you?" he asked, his voice choked up.
"Nope. I'm stubborn. You haven't learned that yet?"
He chuckled slightly.
"Look, I'm fine. "I'll get over it. Sorry I yelled. And I really am happy for you and Mitchie. She's a great girl. You guys will be a great couple."
"Thanks," I said, smiling and then ran upstairs.
That night, I dreamt of Mitchie. She was standing on a platform in a long, white wedding dress. The room was filled with people and flowers and everyone was smiling. Except Mitchie. She was looking around anxiously. The bishop whispered something into her ear, and then she replied. I couldn't hear what they were saying, and for a moment, I was puzzled as to why she was upset. Then, I noticed something. There was no groom. I wasn't there.
Suddenly, a loud noise came from the back of the room and a door opened. Nate stood there, his face grim.
"Something's happened," he said, breathing hard. "To Shane."
I woke up, sweating and looked at the clock. It was 3:30.
'It was just a dream,' I whispered to myself. 'Everything's fine.'
Deep down, I felt uneasy, as if my body was trying to tell me something. But I pushed it away and went back to sleep.
This is basically a one shot. I just wanted it out there. If people REALLY like it, I might do more. But I've got orders for quite a few different stories now, so I don't know. PLEASE review, if you can. And I can handle constructive criticism (as long as you don't, like, swear at me….).
