Hey guys! Your favorite owl here!
I know that I'm already writing a big story which is "The Dynamic Adventure". However, the thing is that I have so many ideas in my mind that I cannot pull them all into the same story without getting it completely ruined. So instead, I decided to start a new one in my favorite animated movie to fill them in.
Some of you might remember that I published a short-lived KFP fic also named "Quest For Awesomeness" before deleting it. Let's hope the same thing won't happen with this one.
Except that, enjoy the story. I'll continue depending on how much support I get, but if I do decide to continue that story, it will probably be long, hehehe!
Before we start, I don't know Kung Fu Panda...but you already knew that. XD
Let's begin!
Master Oogway.
That was the name Po knew more than anyone else in the Valley. The panda first heard that name during an average summer afternoon. At that time, his father was running all around his noodle shop to try and make many bowls his "secret ingredient soup" for many people. "Because it's Grandmaster Oogway, the protector of the whole valley!" he said.
In less than two minutes, Po found himself peeking over a counter at the old, tall tortoise and many other animals accompanying him. On his face was a content smile, one that only an old man could have, while his comrades were burying their faces into bowls of noodles with slurps and noises that could rival Po's.
When the tortoise he assumed was Grandmaster Oogway laid his eyes on him, it felt more like the eyes of an entire stadium than those of an old man. He felt those eyes as he walked toward the unusual group, undeterred.
"Hi," Po brightly said. "Are you Grandmaster Oogway?"
"Hello, young panda. Yes, I am Grandmaster Oogway." He held out a hand with long fingers. "What is your name?"
"My name's Po," he said with a grin. "Dad really likes you. He puts extra salt in your noodles."
Oogway chuckled. "I noticed. Tell him I give him my compliments."
It was then that Po noticed a friend of Oogway setting down his bowl and wiping some of the soup from his face. It was a male yak with jade green eyes and a pretty large figure.
"Whoa," Po mumbled in awe.
The yak grinned and proudly fixed his biceps. "We're gonna go on a big journey, kiddo."
Po blinked innocently. "Really? What for?"
"Come sit down with me." He patted the spot next to him. "We're going for a pretty big mission. By the way, my name's Kai."
It was the first day Po ever heard the word 'Kung Fu'.
During all of the afternoon, Grandmaster Oogway and his companions talked to Po about the mystical art that was Kung Fu and also about their upcoming mission that they claimed was 'very dangerous and could take them years to accomplish'. By the time the sun started setting, it was time for them to depart.
"Am I gonna see you again someday?" Po asked Grandmaster Oogway who was standing at the shop's entrance, ready to leave.
The tortoise turned toward the panda with a smile. "I cannot make any promises as the future is uncertain, young one. But I will try to live long enough until our paths cross again."
Po then gave a grin. "You know what, one day, I too will become a great Kung Fu master. In fact, I'm gonna become the greatest Kung Fu master of all time!"
Oogway couldn't help but chuckle at the youngling's enthusiasm. "The greatest of all time? It's gonna be a hard path for you to follow." He then removed the rice hat on top of his head and pulled it down on the panda's one. "Here, take this as a motivation gift. Be nice to give it back to me once you accomplish your goal, alright?"
Po took the hat into his paws and examined his cone-shaped structure. He smiled brightly and thanked Grandmaster Oogway before his departure alongside his whole team from the Valley of Peace. That was the last time the old tortoise has ever been seen around the valley in the last 12 years.
Growing up, Po could unfortunately not take Kung Fu lessons with other kids. That was because his father did not have the money for it despite how things were going well for his business. But the panda refused to give up on his goal and instead sneaked to watch Kung Fu lessons in secret while also asking advice to a few friends of his. Then, the big day came.
"Absolutely not, son!" Mr. Ping firmly said, crossing his wings.
Po was now a full grown-up adult. His belly was larger than before, but his fur was still black and white, and his eyes were still jade green. He was wearing brown baggy pants along with the rice hat Grandmaster Oogway gave him 12 years ago. A memory of the promise he made.
"But dad! How do you want to become a super awesome and legendary Kung Fu master if I just sit around doing only chores in your shop?" the panda insisted. "I have a promise to hold!"
"No, no, and no! I will not let you risk your life for no reason!" The goose turned around with his wings crossed.
Po sighed at his father's overprotective nature. Not that he could really blame him; he was his only son and pretty much the only family he had in the Valley of Peace. A smile formed on his lips as he then found a good idea to make his father change his mind.
"Dad, have you already forgot about my second big dream?"
Mr. Ping turned to look at him curiously. "What second biggest dream?"
"You know, the one after becoming the greatest Kung Fu master of all time. The one where I made the best full course menu in all of China so that people all over the country will come to your restaurant? If you want this dream to come true, I'm gonna have to travel across China and taste all the food and every meal for a chance to happen. You don't want me to go for a long journey for my first journey outside the village, do you?"
His father suddenly slapped him on the belly with a spoon. "What are you still doing here then, you lazyhead? Go outside and start searching before I become too old to run my shop! Come on!"
Po couldn't help but chuckle at his father's sudden change of heart before running out of the shop. The panda made his way to the entrance of the village and stopped for a moment. That was it. He was finally going to venture outside the village for the first time in his life.
Hoping that it wasn't as bad as he heard from stories, Po started stepping out of the village...
So? Do you think this is a good beginning? Be honest with me, I can take it :)
I sure hope this story will be better than my previous attempts at making a KFP story. Let me know in the reviews what you think about it.
Bye for now, owl lovers.
