Prologue: The Soldier and The Artist

A lonely soldier stood waiting for a bus that would take him to war; his only option after being strip of everything he had. He looked at his watched and noticed that he had more than an hour to go before the bus comes. Across the street was a quaint shop filled with artworks of all sorts; with nothing else to do before the bus comes he decided to head for the shop. As he entered the shop, a tiny bell sounded, alerting the girl behind the counter that a customer has entered. She looked up and gave the stranger a welcoming smile.

"Hello, how may I help you?"

"I'm just here to look around, trying to kill time before I have to go."

"Sure, go ahead take your time."

She went back to her previous task, leaving him alone to do his own browsing. He walked around the shop, noticing the many paintings around the shop and the glass work lining the shelves. He took a closer look at one of the paintings, he saw the intials SK at the bottom and wondered if that was her.

"You do all this work?"

"Yep, I make all my stuff, and sell them."

"This is great stuff, do you make a lot of money?"

"Enough so that I won't starve."

"I'm Syaoran Li, I am a soldier about to depart for war."

"I'm Sakura Kinomoto, I run this store. Nice to meet you."

Not knowning what else to do, he decided to ask if she would like to have a cup of coffee and keep him company for the next hour till he has to leave.

"Hey, do you want to get a cup of coffee with me, my treat, just keep me company for the next hour, I am leaving and this maybe my last time here, and I liked to spend it with someone rather than by myself?"

"Ummmm... sure let me lock up and gather my things."

She locked up and both headed to the nearest cafe; getting to know each other on the way. They sat down on a table and for the next hour talked about each other, yet keeping their past unknown. When an hour past by, they were fast friends and it made leaving for him difficult. He stood up to go wait for the bus.

"Well, I had a good time, it was nice meeting you, good luck with you shop."

"Yeah, me too; I'm glad we spent the afternoon together."

She stood up and gave him a hug.

Both left the cafe, one heading for war and the other to her shop.

The young soldier loaded the bus, taking one last look at the town he had known only for a while and the shop, where he met a friend, the only one he has.

Unknown to him, a young women stood in the shadows by the window of her shop, a single tear falling down her once smiling face.
