Walk Through The Fire
By Dustin Brooks
Disclaimer: I do not, nor ever will, own Dustin Brooks or any other power rangers character no matter how much I bribe Saban's senior secretary into signing ownership papers over to me, hehe.
If you've seen or heard of it before, I don't own it. This story is set in my own twisted universe, created by my own extremely twisted mind, and written in my very own equally twisted style, and is created solely for entertainment purposes only, despite how much it might put you to sleep. (Wink)
Prologue - Dreams and Reality
He was running. Faster and faster he ran across the cliff tops, stumbling a little every now and then as he glanced behind him.
They were gaining on him. Their fearsome growls filled the air, mingling with the sounds of the waves crashing fiercely against the cliffs as the thunder crackled in the sky above them. A solitary flash of lightning lit up the world every now and then, reflecting off of their ferocious snarling fangs, making their eyes glow an eerie shade of red in the dark of the night.
Then, all of a sudden, the length of the cliffs gave way to the sheer drop at the end; there was nowhere left to run.
He was trapped.
He skidded to a halt at the end, glancing down at the endless black of the ocean before turning around to find his vicious pursuers surrounding him. The leader of the pack let out a feral howl of triumph that made the blood in his veins turn to ice.
Then, the creature pounced, ripping open the flesh of his arm as he raised it in protection. He screamed in pain, taking a step back, his foot slipped and then he was falling, falling through the air, the sharp jagged rocks within the endless abyss getting closer and closer until…
Dustin Brooks awoke with a scream.
Breathing heavily and covered from head to toe in sweat, it took him a long moment to realize he was in the safety of his own room.
'That dream again', he thought to himself as he tried in vain to steady his heart rate.
He glanced over at his alarm clock. 4:30am. 'Might as well get up', he thought. 'Not like I'll be able to get back to sleep, anyway.'
Dustin got out of bed and padded down the carpeted hallway to the bathroom. He splashed his face with cold water then looked up at his reflection in the mirror to see a rather pale-complected version of himself staring back at him with dark circles around the tired eyes. The nightmares were beginning to take their toll.
He sighed. ' wonder how much longer I can hide this from the others?' he thought.
Suddenly, his morpher bleeped, making him jump almost out of his skin. 'Monster attacks at this time in a morning', he thought to himself. 'Oh, well. Best get down there.' And with that thought, he ninja-streaked to the cave.
Bit of a short prologue, I know. The next chapter will be longer, I promise! Got a lot on at the moment.
Please R&R, but no flames please, though positive criticism is always welcome to a newbie like me, LOL.
