Nothing to lose
It
all started when my dad shoot himself. That's when my life altered.
My mom was so shocked she committed suicide as well, leaving me and
my big brother, Ethan all alone. I was too small to remember anything
so my brother told me most of it later on, when I was old enough. My
uncle took us in his house(an old crappy one if you wanna know the
truth), but it wasn't as if he was taking care of us or anything.
Come to think of it, I'm not sure he even knew we were there. He used
to come home by midnight with some of his friends(which were were all
mostly drunk) and then start to play cards and laugh really loudly
all night. My brother was really the only important person in my life
and I guess that's why I always looked up to him. In case you were
wondering, I didn't go to school at that time. My uncle refused to
pay for my education, saying I was better off doing all the chores in
the house. He sent my brother to school though, mainly hoping he
could use him later on when he got a good paying job. I remember
waiting each day at the window for my brother to come back from
school. Sometimes, if I had finished all the work my uncle gave me, I
even walked up to the schoolyard where I peacefully waited for him
leaning against the fence. He used to come out with his good friend
Alex, greeting me with a: "Hey, squirt!" as I jumped to his
neck trying to give him a hug, but he always gently pushed me away. I
understand him tough. Hugging your little sister is not something you
wanna do in front of all the school. I think I was almost 8 then.
Well, anyway, one day, Ethan happened to come out very late since he
was stuck in detention for punching a guy that had insulted our dad.
I don't know why he had always had a great respect for our folks. Me
on the other hand had never forgiven them for leaving us. It was
pitch black outside and my brother wasn't here yet, but I still
remained leaning against the fence when I heard a deep voice:
"Hey
Kim"
My name was Kimberly, but everyone called me Kim. I
turned around seeing this tough looking guy with a bunch of his
friends staring at me. I noticed he had a pretty big bruise on his
cheek.
"Hey", I replied as he menacingly smirked.
"Your
Ethan's little sister, aren't you?"
