It is a common assumption in Death City that weapons and their technicians will end up sleeping together at some point in their relationship. Their reasoning is that Soul Resonance is one of the most intimate thing you could do with a person. Around the time that everyone was learning group soul resonance, Maka was reminded of this assumption. She felt that she should talk about it with someone. Her first stop was her own weapon.

"Have you ever heard that assumption that because of soul resonance, a weapon and their technician are going to sleep together?" Maka asked one night over dinner while Blair was at work.

"Yeah," Soul answered, not making eye contact. "What of it?"

"Well... what do you think about it?" she asked, turning bright red.

"What do you think about it?" Soul demanded, eying his technician warily. 'Is this a trick?' he asked himself.

There was an awkward silence while they each thought about how to respond. It was getting to be too much for Soul to handle.

"This conversation is very uncool," he said, twisting in his chair so he wouldn't have to look at her. "Just because people think it doesn't mean it's going to happen."

"Well, yeah," Maka agreed, "But people are going to think it anyway, whether or not it actually happened."

"So?" Soul scoffed, "I'm cool. Cool people don't care about what other people think of them."

"Easy for you to say. You aren't going to be considered a slut," Maka spat.

"Huh?"

"I regularly Soul Resonance with you. But lately I've been Soul Resonancing with Black Star, and Death the Kid," Maka said, "And let us not forget Patty, Liz, and Tsubaki. I've also soul resonanced with Oxford and Harvar, Kilik, Fire, and Thunder, Kim and Jacqueline, and once with Professor Stein. If that became public knowledge, people would think that I slept with all of them too."

"But they aren't your weapons or weapons that you've used, except for Tsubaki. They're probably not part of the thinking," Soul pointed out.

"So, I'm just going to sleep with you and Tsubaki," Maka asked suspiciously.

"Woah! Who said anything about us sleeping together?" Soul demanded.

"You don't want to sleep with me?" Maka seemed a little upset.

Soul knew this was a trap. If he said yes he would be a pervert. If he said no he would hurt her feelings. "Do you want to sleep with me?" Soul demanded, patting himself on the back for his quick thinking.

"What? Now?" Maka demanded turning bright red.

"Or ever," Soul said, trying to sound as cool as he could with the conversation.

"Well... I don't... Huh," she said, feeling a little stumped. "I don't think so."

"Exactly," Soul said as though he proved a point. "Although if you wanted to sleep with Tsubaki, I'd be down with that. She's hot."

"And I'm not?" Maka demanded getting rather annoyed again. Soul's answer was to look pointedly at her chest. Maka followed his gaze, and was annoyed at his reminder that she had a less then ample bosom. There was only one correct response to such an answer. "Maka chop," she declared as she brought a book down onto the top of Soul's head.

Soul groaned as he picked himself up off the ground. "There. Feel better now?" he asked, wincing at the way talking made his head hurt more. Maka smiled her close lipped smile and giggled slightly.

"Thanks."
