I actually wrote this last year, for my creative writing class. I forgot I never posted it here. The periods centered in between stanzas are just placeholders because fanfic wouldn't hold any of my formatting. Hope you enjoy!

.

The wind steals the blood from her cheeks

As she stares over the compacted sand

Held together by ice.

Waiting.

Always waiting,

Since the moment he disappeared.

Since the ice between them had melted,

And they had started drifting.

.

To be star-crossed would be a relief.

.

The waves crash on the shore,

And drops of ice land on her cheeks,

Sparkling, mimicking a joy that she doesn't feel,

Because she is still waiting in vain

For the day he returns.

.

The wind bites.

.

She shifts her weight,

Not even noticing the cold

As she pulls her jacket closer to her body,

Preoccupied with what might have been,

Her mind supplying her with pictures of white dresses

And her father walking by her side

As he stands and waits for their life together to begin.

.

She waits.

.

It's a good place to think, out here,

And sometimes her mind drifts from him.

It's a relief to catch a break from the memories.

Her mind curls around each detail of the beach around her,

Writing songs and painting pictures

That are too personal for her hands to make reality.

.

Time passes.

.

Silent footsteps press into the sand

And the wind sweeps the indents away,

Forcing the earth to forget she was ever there.

.

Just a memory.
