A/N: Mmkay. I was looking through my REALLY old original fiction on The Doll Palace, and saw this story. I really liked it, so I decided to switch out some names and turn it into a fanfic. Poor Kairi. Why do so many people hate her?!

Kairi looked out from her window out to the palace grounds and beyond. The ceremony was starting. She was going to be late. She picked up her skirts and ran down 6 flights of stairs before stopping to listen to a sad sound.
It was a little girl servant crying, because she had broken her doll. Kairi sighed. The ceremony would have to wait. She wondered why the girl wasn't downstairs as well. Kairi took the doll and screwed its head back on. "There. Here you go dear", she cooed. The girl squealed with delight and ran down the stairs. Kairi shook her head, but smiled. She continued down the steps, getting down 8 more flights before hearing another sound.
This time it was an emaciated puppy who was trying to reach a scrap of food on a table. Kairi wanted to cry, because she could see the poor thing's little ribs sticking out. She lifted down an entire full plate of food for the puppy, which began to eat ravenously. Then she scurried down the rest of the stairs.
She walked out into the sunlight. Everyone she had known was weeping. She wished she could help them, too, but that was impossible. She could only do small things to make their lives better. But she could not bring people back to life.
She walked past all of the mourners to the coffin. "Namine put me in my favorite dress…" she thought."She was always my best friend."
Her face hadn't been distorted by the poison, but that wasn't the point. She wished to know who did it. Oh, well. it didn't matter. She would be here for a while, so maybe she would hear who it was from one of the palace gossips.
The ceremony was ending. Kairi decided to go back upstairs early. She had more work to do.
