1Disclaimer: I do not own Detective Conan/Case Closed, nor would I want too... Because if I did, I think that I would probably screw it up.

Author's Note: A little bit of Conan's agony. One-shot. My ASP story will be updated soon! 3

Agony

Life is not fair. Of course, one did not make it very far in the world if he believed that it should be. His life /was/ perfect. A gorgeous girlfriend, a wonderful day job as a detective, and the ability to sweep many people of Japan off their feet. But that /was/ a long time ago. In the present he had taken form of a little kid. A small kid who had to go through grade school, hang out with /peers/, and do things that a little kid would enjoy. And no, that did not include detective work. Deja vu' is what some would call it. He had been a child before, sure, the carefree life was great... He longed to be an adult. Life is not fair.

She never looked at him the same way. The longing, loving look that she used to give him as he was an adult. The way she looked at him now was filled with the love of a mother. He loved her, but she would never love him the same way. He couldn't blame her, many girls in his /peer/ group weren't looking very attractive to him either. If he couldn't turn back to normal, he would never be able to be loved by her. She never looked at him the same way.

Agony. Whoever was watching out for him in that deep heaven above sure was a cruel deity. They knew about his pain. Without the professor, he was sure he would be dead by now. He had grown accustom to struggling. That had become the major part of his life, it felt like he lived to struggle. Why was he getting it much more difficult then the rest? Wait, why was he complaining? Ran was waiting for him, Shinichi, not him. If he could deliver him to her, then her suffering would be over. But he was not capable. What a cruel deity. Whoever said that 'when it rains it pours' knew it all too well. Agony.

She belonged to him. She was by no means his. She belonged to Shinichi, and she always would. Conan was now who he was. No matter what he did, he would never be able to have her in this form. She belonged to him.

He loved her. Whatever happened to him, he knew he had to protect her. If he knew that he lived while she did not, his heart would shatter. No matter what trouble that came along, whether he be Conan or Shinichi, he would fight it. Do whatever it took to save her from harm. He loved her.

To Ran, forever and always.
