Random oneshot idea I had. Enjoy.
The two of them stared at the frozen ice that lay before them. Both of them were dressed in sweatshirts and gloves. Will was even wearing a scarf around his neck to keep extra warm.
"Are you sure this is where you want to go for our first date?" Will asked.
"Yes I'm sure. Of course, I've never gone ice skating myself so I don't really know what to expect," his date Elizabeth said.
Will turned to her slight astonishment. "You've never skated before and yet your father rented out the whole place for us for the afternoon."
"Only after some gentle persuasion," she said running a finger on his jaw line.
That caused Will to get a slight chill that he knew had nothing to do with the fact it was so cold.
He slowly stood up before pulling Elizabeth to her feet as well. They entered the ice and Elizabeth found that Will was a very good skater.
Elizabeth wasn't as lucky however. The minute her feet entered, she slid and found herself sliding on her butt.
"Elizabeth, are you alright?" Will asked coming over.
"I think so."
He helped her to stand again and kept a tight hold on her hand.
"Don't let go," Elizabeth said nervously.
"I wouldn't dream of it," he said back with a grin.
Keeping a firm hand, he pulled her along slowly. Carefully he wrapped one hand around her waist and she looked into his eyes before turning away and smiling. Having his body so close to hers made her feel warm and safe. She leaned into his shoulder and he looked down slightly surprised.
"So, how long have you skated then? I know this isn't your first time."
"When I was younger I was on an ice hockey team. I guess the fundamentals never leave you."
They went around in circles for what seemed like hours. Will never let go of her hand and Elizabeth felt safe in his arms.
"I think we can use a break," he said suddenly breaking her out of her reverie.
"Alright."
They left the rink and Will pulled out a bag he brought with her. From inside, he pulled out a thermos.
"It's hot cocoa. Try some, it's really good and I put little marshmallows in it."
"My favorite."
While she was drinking that, Will continued to remove things from his bag including some cookies and a flower that he put in Elizabeth's hair. She giggled as she removed it and gave it a light sniff. He put the cocoa away and took Elizabeth's gloved hand once more and brought her onto the ice.
"Think you can stand by yourself?" he asked carefully.
Slowly, Elizabeth nodded and Will let go and watched. She was a bit unsteady at first but she managed to stay on her feet.
Of course, then she tried to turn and found herself running into Will.
"Look out!"
Will didn't move in time and they landed on the ice a bit hard with Elizabeth lying on top of him.
"Oh Will, I'm so sorry," Elizabeth said trying to get up. She only succeeded in falling again.
"I'm fine. Just banged my head a bit. I'm alright," he said before looking into her eyes.
The two of hers locked into his and neither could look away. Will pulled her closer to him and kissed her there and then on the ice. Elizabeth broke away and they smiled at each other.
"Are you having fun?" Will asked.
He stood up and again helped Elizabeth to her feet.
"More fun than I did to begin with."
"I'm glad," he said before kissing her again.
