Clatter, click, clack.
The stone tumbled down the sidewalk, forced into motion by the shoe of a certain blonde. The youth scowled, kicking the stone again, watching it make a hop-skip before coming to a halt.
"It's okay, Joey," Yugi Motou comforted uneasily. He had no idea what to say that could possibly console his hotheaded--and currently distressed--friend.
"It ain't okay, Yug. I'm a failure, just like Kaiba said, a stupid failing dog...can't do nothing right, not even win a stupid duel."
Clatter, clack, click-click.
"No, Joey... We all have to lose sometime--"
"But I lose ALL the time, Yug. And I'm just a waste of your words, so why don't ya leave me alone?"
"Because, Joey...friends are always there for each other. And don't act like you don't want me to be here."
Joey Wheeler turned his head, stopping in mid-step. His chocolate eyes penetrated Yugi in an oddly-sensitive way, boring into his being, searching for some form of sincerity.
And this sincerity, he apparently found.
Allowing the corners of his mouth to upturn, Joey looked down at the rock settled on the pavement. "Yeah...I guess so, Yug. I do need ya."
Smiling, Yugi replied, "Yeah... And don't worry, I'm sure you'll win next time."
Characteristic beam stretching his lips, Joey gazed up and unexpectedly grabbed Yugi, wrapping his arm firmly though gently around his friend with multi-colored hair's neck. "I don't know about me winnin' the next one, Yug, but..."
Joey rapped his fist playfully on Yugi's head. The latter would have been grinning, but he was too busy attempting to pry the arm off him, resulting in a sort of half-smile, half-strain on his face.
Words weren't needed between them--there was just a common understanding, because of their strong bond of friendship.
