From the viewpoint of Farfello..
And it seems to me that I am not what most people would consider "of sound mind." You know the funny thing about the crazy man is that he never knows he is crazy. My theory is this: one can never tell when they've crossed that ill-defined border between sane and insane simply because insanity is so broadly catergorized. Take, for instance, the woman who throws her child over a bridge to it's death. Amid a jury of her peers, she would plead her case, saying that the father was abusive and she was only sparing the child a wretched life.
The woman may be thrown in prison for the rest of her life, and yet many would not claim her to be "insane."
Now look at a case wherein a man, for whatever reason he may have, stands laughing at the rain. Note that I say laughing at the rain, and not laughing in the rain. The man obviously finds something genuinely humourous about falling rain. Many who pass him on the street would turn their noses up at him. Some may even tell their friends and family about "the crazy man they saw today." He had done nothing wrong, though if enough people saw him and complained to local authorities, the men in white would, undoubtedly, haul him away to some asylum. I'm sure the man would be laughing the whole way there, assuming it was still raining.
They say the man is "insane" because he found humour in something the general population doesn't think is funny.
I submit to you now my own definition of "insanity." Insanity is an observation. But if something is not true for all observers, it is only a point of view. As I have stated before, the crazy man never knows he is crazy, thus he does not observe himself as insane. He has been punished for a general opinion.
In the past, I have killed dozens of people, men and women alike. Their screams still fill my dreams at night. And yet I do not regret a single thing. Given the chance, admittedly, I would probably do it again. So, by my own definition, am I insane? It's possible that I am, but, in being a madman, I wouldn't know it myself.
Only the screamers know for sure, but I'm not sure they're in any position to give their opinions.
