(A.N. I don't own the movie Coraline, which is good because I could not think up as good a movie as it was! Some spoilers!)

When she first meets him he's terrifying. His mask with the creepy lenses, his long black coat and black gloves hiding him away, and his bike, racing towards her and showing less than no signs of stopping. Needless to say, with the storm striking in the sky behind him, and his much-too-loud horn, she's nearly paralyzed with fear for a few seconds. She's terrified right up until she crashes into the mud, and then she's just mad and really uneasy.

Of course, after it's revealed that he's not much scarier than his scaredy-Cat, she just sees him as someone who might be a decent distraction from the gloom that surrounds them both. It seems the boredom and plainness of it all is so thick she can feel it in the air, and if it weren't for a certain slouched boy, she might have choked on it. As it is, they both try to fill up the time by exploring, or riding on his bike (the latter Coraline enjoys much more, but she won't tell him). Of course, this works for them both just fine, until the Beldam.

After she almost dies, and she's covered in cobwebs and grime, she really does think she escaped death only to fall victim to it for real this time. The hand is actually in the air, needles glinting in the moonlight, aiming straight for her freckled nose. And then, it's in pieces. Underneath a small rock. And then she looks up, and she REALLY sees him. And he's amazing.

His face is pure rage for one moment, until he takes a deep breath and all of a sudden his eyes are soft. And those soft eyes look into hers and her heart stops. Because this awkward boy, who makes her feel safe against all odds is giving her such a soft look and she thinks she's never seen someone who's so handsome in such a completely new way. Soon they go back to being exploring, bike-riding buddies again but something is different now. They both feel it.

When they grow older, and their faces are less round and they grow taller and his jaw is more square and her curves develop, she sees him in his final stage. He goes from being terrifying and awkward to brave and manly. And she finally realizes, when they share a kiss on her sofa after her parents went to bed, that no matter how she sees him, she loves what she sees.

(I'm new to this, so if you loved something or hated something, I would love some feedback!)
