Gerard Sings
The Graveyard of the Lost Souls. That's where I was heading. Sir Vinyer was sending me, he said only I could do it. But I didn't understand. Year after year another vampire was picked to sing to the Souls. Last year it was Terrence and he never returned. But Vinyer said that I was it. I could free the Souls. Shane pleaded with the Elders, but to no anvil.
"Please, don't send him!" she cried. "He hasn't even been blooded for a year! Oh, how could you?"
"Enough!" A gold robed member shouted. "The signs are clear, only he must go,"
"Oh, please, just please." She sobbed.
It didn't help, though. The Lost Souls would claim me and only my body would remain. I heard the wails and moans. Shane had come with me this far but could go no further.
"Oh, Gerard, please don't leave me," she said. It was the same thing I had heard for the last two hours. "We can run,"
"You know we can't," I hugged her. "The Souls with go and claim everyone at the camp then,"
She shook her head, sobs shaking he body. "Pleaseā¦" suddenly she broke free, running for the yard.
"SHANE, NO!" I screamed, tackling her.
"Let me go!" she tried to twist free, but I held her. "You cant leave, you just cant, Gerard."
I glanced at my watch. 11:45. "I have to go," I didn't want to ,but I had to. My head burned as I walked past the gates. Out of a white mist came a beautiful woman.
"You have until dawn to free us," she whispered. "The Angle." When I blinked I felt cool stone on my back. My eyes snapped open. A would spirit stepped away from the rest.
Its voice came from everywhere. "Only the true one will free us," it whispered on the wind. "Sing!"
I opened my mouth and sang with the wolf. A six pitch song. "Oly Oly Oxen Free, all clear and safe, come and see."
"Louder," the shouted. "Sing louder!"
I closed my eyes and screamed the song. "Oly Oly Oxen Free, all clear and safe, come and see." I sang it three more times, working to drown out the screaming voices. I stopped. No chanting. Was I dead? Was it dawn already? I slowly opened my eyes. Dawn. But they where gone. I looked down at my hands. Yes, my hands! They where there! I did it, I was alive!
Oly Oly Oxen Free, all clear and safe, come and see.
