Disclaimer: I don't own Rookie Blue.
A.N. This story has been running through my mind since I saw the promo but I wanted to be sure about what happened after Shaw was shot. Now that I've watched Hot and Bothered multiple times... here it is:
The woman rushed through the corridors of the hospital, going as fast as she could without running. As she rounded a corner, she saw a police officer in front of her holding a bag from a burger shop. "Sam" she called, priding herself that she was only a little out of breath.
Sam Swarek turned. "Michelle."
"Where is he?"
Sam looked at her. "Michelle, calm down. As I told you on the phone, it's a broken rib. He'll be out by tomorrow."
She glared at him. "He's my husband. Where is he?"
"Michelle, calm down. If you show stress, he's gonna get worked up, you know that he's like that about you."
She took a deep breath. "Okay, I'm calm. Now take me to him."
Sam headed down the corridor and stopped by a closed door. He knocked softly. "Oliver, you have a visitor."
They both heard a voice say "come in".
Sam turned the knob and then bowed, murmuring "ladies first".
She playfully hit him and then entered the room. She made a beeline to her husband's bed and grabbed his hand. He shifted and used his other hand to push her hair away from her face. "Michelle," he whispered softly.
"Oliver, oh god, Oliver." She began to cry.
Oliver Shaw sat up straighter and pulled her close to him. "Don't cry; I'm fine. It hit my vest."
"You could have gotten killed."
"Michelle, this is my job. I am a police officer and I want to make sure the world is a better place for our girls. You know what? This guy was kidnapping girls. As we went in, I realized that this could be my girls. My gut feeling told me that something was wrong but if I were my daughter I would want the police to try to save her."
"I'm sorry" she wiped her eyes. "It was just…when Sam called, he said you were okay but I had to be sure of it myself."
"Where are the girls? Did you tell them?"
"At the neighbors. The power's out and they were invited to go for a run in the sprinkler. I told Jess (the neighbor) and she said she would keep an eye on them. I didn't want to tell them."
Oliver nodded. "Well, the doctor said I will be out tomorrow. As per the rule book, then I have a week off of work because I was shot."
"You are supposed to be taking it easy."
"Hey, I have a week off of work and I want to spend it with my ladies. Is there a problem with that?"
Michelle smiled. "I guess not. The girls will be happy that Daddy is home for the week. Just don't spoil them too much so that they ask you to get injured more often so you can stay home."
"Hey, don't worry too much. I've been on the job for fifteen years." He looked around the room. "Speaking of the job, where's Sammy?"
Neither one of them had noticed when Sam Swarek had deposited the bag from the burger shop on the table and silently slipped out of the room leaving the two of them alone.
"Well my lady, since he is not here…" he pulled her close to him and kissed her, showing her that he was really fine.
