"Jim, where are we going?" a blindfolded Pam asked, giggling as Jim led her through who-knows-where.

"Shh, we're almost there," he said, though she still didn't know where "there" was. After a moment, Jim stopped moving and pulled her blindfold off, revealing a picnic lunch under the shade of a large oak tree.

"Oh, Jim." Pam smiled.

"It's a good day for surprises," he shrugged, winking at her as he invited her to sit down.

"Wait right here," Jim said, going to the other side of the tree.

"What are you doing?" She called, laughing.

"You'll see in a minute! There's wine in the picnic basket."

Pam opened the bottle and poured herself a glass of the white wine in a solo cup, taking out the pretzels he'd packed and munching on them.

"Okay, come here!" Jim called. Pam stood up and walked around to the other side of the tree, looking to see what he inscribed there.

"Pamela,

You are my north,

My south,

My east,

My west,

My working week,

And my Sunday rest.

Will you marry me?"

"Jim, you do realize I had two kids with you, right?" Pam smiled.

"Pam,will you marry me?" Jim asked, on one knee.

"Yes," Pam beamed, buying into his game though she didn't know why yet. That was just part of being married, she guessed. You stuck with your better half, even when you didn't know what they were doing.

"I couldn't wait the first time, so I never got to show you the tree carving. I needed a little time for a new one in Austin, but I figured you'd let me propose again, in the spirit of our five-year anniversary." Jim explained after leaving a long kiss on Pam's lips.

"Happy anniversary, hon."

"Happy anniversary."
