AN: I was re-reading The Way Of The Dragon when this idea popped out at me. The bold text is quoted directly from the book.

"Sorry," said Yamato, unable to meet Jack's gaze.

"Don't be," replied Jack. Jack's insistence that he shouldn't apologise seemed to be…misplaced to Yamato. It was Jack who would suffer at Kazuki's hands, even if he had been the one to make the challenge in the first place. But Jack continued. "You beat four of them. Everyone's talking about it."

"But I lost," he sighed. "That's what they'll remember. There's no glory in coming second."

"It's not what I'll remember," replied Jack. "I'll remember a friend fighting for me and for honour."

Yamato attempted a smile, but he was inconsolable. His chance to prove his worth had slipped through his fingers.

"You'll always come first with me," Jack said with a smile as he looked Yamato firmly in the eye. Such beautiful blue eyes, Yamato thought to himself. They were Jack's best feature. Then Jack leaned forward and kissed Yamato firmly on the lips and the rest of the world seemed to disappear.

Snapping up on his futon, Yamato suddenly woke up breathing heavily. With a quick shake of his head, Yamato put his head back down and tried to get back to sleep. It wasn't like the dream actually MEANT anything, how could it? But it was certainly persistent, this was the third night he'd had that dream.
