Someday

This is for Thara June who asked for it…

I kinda decided it would be between S8 and S9. I've always wondered how this would have happened, I'll probably think of another one, but this one is to go with my previous fic When you say Nothing at all but you don't have to have read it really.

-----

Jack had just picked up Cassie from the air port as she had flown back from UCLA to spend sometime with Sam. But Sam was off-world when Cassie's plane landed so here was Jack picking her up. As they drove back Cassie started to notice how distracted Jack was, he'd barely talked to her the whole way back, something was clearly on his mind.

"Jack?"

Jack snapped back to the present "Sorry kiddo, I was miles away." Jack hesitated, "Cass, I need to borrow a CD."

Cassie stared, "You need to borrow a CD?" Suddenly she realised exactly what he was saying. "You need to borrow a CD! Really? You're going to tell her? Oh my God, Oh my God!" Cassie was practically squeaking now.

"Do you think I shouldn't?" Jack said clearly worried about the whole thing.

"No! You have to! I've been waiting for you do to something for years! Mom always hoped you'd get together."

"Hey! Hang on a minute here, me telling her, stuff, and her, well and her…"

"Jack, don't be stupid. She loves you, she always has. Just as you love her, and always have."

Jack looked across at her and Cassie shrugged.

"Oh, I know about Pete and Kerry, but they were only to show each of you what you need, and what you have in each other."

They had all arranged that in honour of Cassie's trip back to the Springs they would have an old team night at Sam's that evening, so several hours – and beer and pizza – later it was just Sam and Jack alone in Sam's living room; Daniel taking Teal'c back to the SGC and Cassie subtly giving Jack his opportunity.

"Sam" she noticed the use of her first name, something he hadn't done recently "I have something I have to, well tell you, I guess. Please just hear me out, okay?"

"Okay. Sir, what's going on?"

"No just hear me out."

With that Jack walked over to the CD player and pressed play. As the music came on Sam got more confused, this wasn't the type of music Jack liked, in fact it was the type of music Cassie had listened to years ago.

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart

Without saying a word you can light up the dark

Try as I may I can never explain,

What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me

There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me

The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall

You say it best when you say nothing at all…

"Sam we've spend years not saying anything to each other, but with everything that's happened I've finally realised that I have to say something. I've never been one for talking about stuff, especially how I feel, how I feel about you. But I have to do something about that."

He walked over to where Sam was still standing and took her face in his hands, "I love you."

Sam let out a slight gasp before resting her forehead against Jack's, taking his face in her own hands.

"I never thought I would hear you say that. I thought you'd moved on, that I'd moved on. But I haven't. I- I love you too."

Jack brushed the single tear that had escaped, running down her check, and kissed her.
